University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball coach Matt McCall announced the hiring of former University of Florida basketball standout Eddie Shannon as the Mocs' new director of basketball operations late Saturday evening.
"Really excited to welcome @CoachShannon14 as a part of our staff!!#gatorgreat #GoMocs #reptheC," McCall posted on Twitter.
Shannon played point guard for the Gators from 1995-99. He then spent 10 seasons playing basketball professionally overseas.
For the past three seasons, he's been the assistant coach at Palm Beach Atlantic, a NCAA Division II program.
McCall currently has two assistants - Jesse Bopp and Peter Gash - on staff, leaving a spot for one more assistant which could be confirmed soon.
Jacob Kurtz, who just completed his college basketball career at Florida, will be the program's video coordinator. Kurtz started his Gator career as the team manager, earning a roster spot as a walk-on the following year. He worked his way into the starting lineup as a senior, starting seven games.
