No. 17 UTC women crush UNC Greensboro in SoCon tourney opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The No. 17 University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team opened the Southern Conference tournament with a flourish, routing UNC Greensboro 78-44 in a first-round game at Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville.

Sophomore post player Jasmine Joyner scored a career-high 22 points and had a double-double with 10 rebound while playing just 23 minutes.

The Mocs (27-4) closed the 14-1 run to close the first half and lead 33-13 at the break, and never let up in the final 20 minutes.

Sophomore guard Chelsey Shumpert added 13 points and senior Destiny Bramblett scored 10 off the bench. Every active player on UTC's roster scored in the game.

UNCG (6-24) was led by Lucy Mason with 15 points.

On Friday morning, the Mocs will face the winner of Thursday's second game between No. 4 seed Samford and fifth-seeded Furman.
