Chattanooga State's Lady Tigers win three of four

Chattanooga State rebounded from an eight-inning 4-3 loss at Volunteer State on Sunday with three victories in the TCCAA softball series.

Sharlene Godoy took the pitching loss for the Lady Tigers (19-7, 7-1) despite 12 strikeouts, while Shannon Plese was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, Charlene Crawford was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs and Lindsey Stickrod was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Crawford and Plese each was 3-for-5 with a run in a 15-6 win Sunday for Chattanooga State, adding three and two RBIs, and Sydney Sloan was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs behind Hanna Manley's eight-strikeout pitching.

The Lady Tigers won 12-10 and 12-1 in five innings Monday, Morgan Boggess allowing three hits in four innings and Manley pitching the fifth in the finale, when Izzy McCurry hit a grand slam, Dana Horgan was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and two RBIs, Plese was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs and Stickrod had two hits and two RBIs.

Stickrod had a grand slam in Monday's first game, and Plese and Sloan also homered. Plese was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Sloan drove in three and Katy Richardson was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

* Lee 4, Mississippi College 3: At Cleveland, the host Lady Flames erased a three-run deficit and completed a sweep of the Gulf South Conference series with Lexie Dean's shot off the third baseman's glove with two outs and the winning run on third in the ninth inning.

Kaylie Drew had a two-run homer and Emily Dagnan had a tying double in the sixth for Lee (16-10, 7-7), and junior Angie Hughes pitched all nine innings with eight strikeouts and eight walks, but only five hits.

* Southwest Tennessee 6-6, Cleveland State 5-0: At Cleveland, the Lady Cougars lost twice Monday despite Miranda Smith going 3-for-5 with an RBI double and Courtni Hammers and Tori Townson each having two hits and an RBI in the first game, which went 11 innings. Southwest scored three runs in the top of the 11th; Cleveland State (4-8, 3-7) got two in the bottom.

Cleveland State won 8-7 and lost 13-1 in five innings in Sunday's TCCAA doubleheader. Hammers was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the win, and Jennifer Kern and Townson each had two hits and two RBIs while Hannah Godfrey was 2-for-3 and scored three times. The Lady Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Hammers was 1-for-2 with the RBI in the Sunday loss.

* Meredith 9-2, Covenant 7-4: At Lookout Mountain, Jordan Brett went 3-for-5 with two doubles and five RBIs for Covenant in the first-game loss in the USA South doubleheader and was 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and three RBIs in the victory. Joni Johnson was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Tyler Epes pitched a five-hitter in the win for the Lady Scots (6-4, 1-3). Meredith is 12-4, 6-2.
