Tennessee finishes softball sweep of Georgia

The 15th-ranked Tennessee softball team completed a sweep of its three-game Southeastern Conference home series against No. 7 Georgia with an eighth-inning 1-0 win Monday night.

The Lady Vols' C.J. McClain, a pinch-runner scored from third base to end the game in the eighth when Georgia relief pitcher C.J. McClain was called for an illegal pitch after tripping herself in her windup.

Cheyanne Tarango pitched the first 4 1/3 innings for Tennessee (26-7, 6-3), and Rainey Gaffin (4-1) got the pitching win for 3 2/3 perfect innings with six strikeouts. Gaffin also was 3-for-4 as a batter, and Gretchen Aucoin -- for whom McClain was running -- was 2-for-4 with an eighth-inning double.

Tory Lewis from Chattanooga and GPS was 1-for-3 for Tennessee.

The Lady Vols' other Chattanooga outfiellder, Shaliyah Geathers, was 1-for-1 with a two-run pinch-hit single that provided the final margin in Tennessee's 6-2 win Sunday night. Aucoin, the winning pitcher, was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
