Lee University basketball teams win exhibition games

Lee University won two exhibition games Saturday afternoon on homecoming weekend.

The Lady Flames beat NCAA Division III member Maryville College 70-51 before the Flames downed NAIA Division I team Martin Methodist 71-60.

The Lee men won behind 14 points and four assists by C.J. Reese, 13 points by Jervon Johnson, 10 points by Elgrin Wilson and nine rebounds by Keevin Tyus. Lee won despite going 2-for-15 on 3-point shots, while the Pulaski team was 8-of-29 with 20 points from Toderick Davis.

The Lady Flames rolled with 18 points from Erin Walsh and 17 plus nine assists from Haris Price, the two combining to go 13-of-19 from the field and 6-of-10 on 3s. Mindy Brackins scored 16 points for Maryville.

' Bryan (w) 79, Martin Methodist 68: At Dayton, the NAIA Divison II Lady Lions improved to 3-0 by downing the NAIA Division I visitors.

' Southwest Tennessee 60, Cleveland State 51: Friday at Memphis, David Burrell scored 16 points and Brandon Key had 13 plus six assists as the Saluqis won the TCCAA opener. Dontrell Whitaker had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Darrion Leslie had 12 points, 11 rebounds and three steals in defeat for the Cougars, who played Saturday at Dyersburg State.

' Cleveland State (w) 92, Southwest Tennessee 83: The Lady Cougars improved to 3-0 and won their league opener with a 32-23 fourth quarter Friday. Von Harrison scored 22 points and JLynn Majors and Leisa Butler added 18 and 15 in the win.

Centre nips Sewanee in SAA field hockey

Centre College's field hockey team pulled out a 2-1 win over Sewanee on Julie Gates' goal in the second overtime in their Southern Athletic Association tournament semifinal match Saturday at Memphis.

Centre (10-5) scored in the fourth minute and had an 8-1 advantage in shots in the first overtime, but the score remained tied with Katie Wilson's 23rd-minute penalty-corner goal from an Emma Horgan assist for the Tigers (11-6). Caroline Brennan made seven saves in defeat.
