The top four seeds won Thursday in the Appalachian Athletic Conference volleyball tournament quarterfinals in Kingsport, Tenn., with top-seeded Bryan College prevailing 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22) over Bluefield, No. 2 Union (Ky.) beating Reinhardt 3-0, No. 3 St. Andrews winning 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-19) over Tennessee Wesleyan and No. 4 Milligan winning 3-0 over Columbia. Bryan (25-13) faces Milligan (19-14) at 1 p.m. today, followed by Union (25-12) against St. Andrews (21-9). Milligan senior Jessica Davenport from Cleveland High School was the AAC setter of the year, and Bryan's Kara Stamper and Shelby Grace Enochs and TWC's Kirsten Henry from Madisonville, Tenn., were all-conference selections with Bryan's Ashley Mattoch making the second team. Stamper leads the AAC in kills, and Enochs is the assists leader. Bryan's Hope Burnett and TWC's Lauren Applewhite made the all-freshman team.

* Seventh-seeded Dalton State lost 3-1 to No. 2 seed Mobile (21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19) in the round-robin portion of the SSAC volleyball tournament Thursday at Montgomery, Ala. Michala Askew had 41 assists and 12 digs for Dalton State, which plays Bethel and Martin Methodist today. Kianna Delaney, Marta Guntin and Savannah Nelson had 12, 10 and nine kills in defeat, and Karly Newman had 13 digs.

* Covenant College lost 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-12) to SAA champion Hendrix at Berry in the Lady Scots' first-ever NCAA volleyball tournament match Thursday. Chelsea VanDyk had eight kills and Ginny Moore and Morgan Opgenorth had seven apiece for the USA South champions, who got 23 assists from Schuyler Moore and 11 digs from Ginny Moore in finishing their season 19-13.

Basketball

* The Keiser University women's basketball team won 58-51 at Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday, one night after falling 90-83 at Bryan.

* The annual city prep basketball jamboree was held Thursday at GPS with eight quarters of action. The regular season begins for some teams next week, when the TSSAA allows teams to play Hall of Champions games. The East Ridge girls beat Notre Dame 12-8 as Jayla Stone, Kyhonah Lawrence and Cassie Jordan each had four points; Allison Hoffer had four for the Lady Irish. Boyd-Buchanan's girls topped Soddy-Daisy 8-3 with Abbie Sewell scoring three for the Lady Bucs and the Lady Trojans' Morgan Hopkins matching that. Brooke McCurdy's three led GPS over Chattanooga Christian, 11-7, with Addie Henry scoring three for CCS, and Janie Boals and Aryn Sanders each had five for Signal Mountain in a 10-7 defeat of Tyner, which got three from Destiny Whaley. Hannah Kincer scored four as GPS later tied Silverdale Baptist. Junior Clay scored five points as McCallie beat Tyner 11-6, and Brannon Walls had seven for Silverdale in a 9-7 win over Signal, which got three from Briston Reese. Notre Dame edged Boyd-Buchanan 19-17.

Golf

* Heritage High School senior golfers Sport Allmond and Ben Rebne made their commitments official by signing Wednesday with Dalton State, where Rebne's sister Rachel already plays. "They are two strong local players that I believe can help us achieve our long-term goals," DSC director of golf Ben Rickett said in a school release, noting that he began recruiting both when he got the job three years ago. Allmond qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2014 and won the Chattanooga Men's Metro this past July at Canyon Ridge as well as the Chattanooga TPC finals in October at Council Fire. Rebne was the 2014 Chattanooga TPC Junior runner-up, the 2014 TaylorMade champion at Bear Trace at Harrison Bay and the 2014-15 Chattanooga PGA Junior champion. His father is the head professional at Council Fire.
