SATURDAY STAR
Florida State running back Dalvin Cook had 114 total yards - 109 rushing - and two touchdowns. With his team struggling some early in the game, the Heisman Trophy candidate had five carries for 52 yards on a drive that he finished with a score that gave his team a 14-6 advantage and swung all of the momentum FSU's way.
SATURDAY STAT
The Mocs finished with 184 yards rushing on the day, which was the third-most allowed by the Florida State defense this season. Only Georgia Tech (261 yards) and Clemson (215) had more, and those teams are the ones who beat the Seminoles.
THE BIG PLAY
The Mocs had Florida State backed up to a third-and-16 from UTC's 34-yard line on the third possession of the game, holding a 3-0 lead. Quarterback Sean Maguire completed a pass to Kermit Whitfield, who sprinted 33 yards to the 1-yard line. The Seminoles would score on the next play and not look back.
THE TURNING POINT
The Mocs already were down 17-6 and in need of possibly mounting a drive and some momentum before the end of the first half but were forced into a three-and-out. A punt gave the Seminoles the ball at their own 48-yard line, and they wasted no time, scoring on four plays to essentially put the game out of reach.
WHAT IT MEANS
In the grand scheme of things, nothing. UTC's athletic department benefited from the $550,000 the program made for the game, and now the team can turn its full attention to today's FCS playoff selection show and a hopeful bye that will help the Mocs get over some injuries suffered during Saturday's contest.
