Kristy Wieser downed 15 kills, Allie Davenport had 10 and Briana Reid and Lauren Gainer contributed nine apiece as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team extended its winning streak to 11 matches with a 3-1 Southern Conference victory Friday evening against visiting Mercer. The 25-15, 22-25, 25-17, 25-11 outcome made the Mocs 4-0 in the SoCon, 15-2 overall, going into a week layoff. Madison Bergren had 44 assists and Miranda Elpers and Catherine Chason had 18 and 17 digs with Rachel Petkosh and Reid adding 12 and 11. Ellie James had 12 kills and 12 digs for Mercer (5-10).

* Lee lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-21) in Gulf South Conference volleyball Friday at West Alabama. Silvia Sartori's seven kills, Hillary Hoffpauir's 12 assists and Stephanie Hernandez's 12 digs led the Lady Flames (5-6, 1-5).

* The Bryan College volleyball team improved to 9-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with an emphatic 3-0 win (25-8, 25-15, 25-12) Friday at Point University. The second-place Lady Lions are 13-10 overall.

* Dalton State defeated visiting Bethel 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23) in Southern States Athletic Conference volleyball Friday with Marta Guntin and Kianna Delaney registering 11 and 10 kills, Michala Askew setting 37 assists and Karly Newman making 12 digs. Savannah Nelson added seven kills for the Roadrunners (6-8, 2-5), who host Martin Methodist at 1 p.m. today.

Running

* Chattanooga native Tyler Underwood, a private school teacher in Encinitas, Calif., followed up his 2:26:27 time as the first American finisher in the London Marathon in April with a 2:23:29 last Sunday in Berlin, Germany. The Ooltewah High School and University of Tennessee graduate was 62nd overall out of more than 44,000 finishers in Berlin, with a 1:10:04 first half that beat his personal-best half marathon time of 1:11 two months ago in Mexico. He hopes to run the Tokyo Marathon in late February.

* The UTC cross country teams were scheduled to run this morning in the USC Upstate Invitational meet, but horrible weather in South Carolina led to a change for the Mocs to the JSU Foothills Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State at Oxford, Ala. This will be the first 8-kilometer race of the season for the UTC men. The Lee University men also will take part, along with men's and women's teams from Auburn, Birmingham-Southern, Emory, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Miles, Spring Hill, Troy, Tuskegee and the UGA Running Club and women's squads from Alabama A&M, Georgia Southern and Georgia State.

Sailing

* Texas sailor Bill Draheim leads the standings after two days of the MC Scow Masters national regatta out of Privateer Yacht Club on Chickamauga Lake, and Scott Harestad of Michigan is second with John Potter of South Carolina, Ron Baerwitz of Florida and Mark Tesar of Iowa completing the top five. The rainy competition involving 16-foot MC Scows ends today. Hixson's Chris Cyrul is the PYC leader; he's 17th in total points out of the 55 participants.

Soccer

* UTC fell 6-1 to Mercer in Southern Conference women's soccer Friday at Macon, Ga. Emily Moseley scored for the Mocs (2-8-2, 0-2-1) after Katelyn Dimopoulos assisted on the first goal and scored the next two for Mercer (5-4-2, 2-0).

* The Lee women won 1-0 in overtime and the men won 2-1 in a GSC soccer doubleheader Friday at West Florida. Kaela Leskovar scored 1:20 into the second OT period for the Lady Flames (4-3-2, 3-1), who were outshot 19-10. David Perez and Jonathan Finlay scored against Chattanooga Football Club coach Bill Elliott's 15th-ranked UWF team (6-2, 1-2), and Jake Molony and Quade Marinell had assists for Lee (6-2-1, 1-0).

* Tyler Edell's goal for Sewanee midway through the first half stood up for a 1-0 women's soccer victory Friday against visiting Maryville. Olivia Glascoe and Savannah Williams combined for the shutout in goal for the Tigers (4-3), who outshot Maryville (7-3) 13-8 and had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Tennis

* UTC men's tennis players won four singles and three doubles matches Friday as the annual Steve Baras Classic opened in Chattanooga, and the female Mocs had nine wins with Kelsey Coots and Sydney Patton reaching the No. 2 doubles draw final. Kayla Jones and Samantha Caswell won a match in the No. 1 draw, and Jones, Alison Storie, Rachele Gazzola and Patton won in singles. Storie and McKenzie Barco won once in No. 3 doubles. The Mocs men's teams of John Peace and Lucas Plesky in the A draw, Derrick Brown and Nic Wilson in the B and Michael Birnbaum and Paul LaHue in C each won and lost, and Plesky, Nick Wingord, Brown and Birnbaum had straight-sets individual wins.

* The ITA Atlantic South Regional women's tournament being hosted by Sewanee had to be played indoors in Murfreesboro as well as on the Sewanee campus Friday, and the host team did well. Senior Lindsey Liles with an opening bye, Maggie Crumbliss, Clementina Davila and Taylor Childress of Sewanee each advanced through two rounds to the round of 16, and Kate Johnston and Mary Jane McCaghren won Main Draw first-round matches before falling. Sydney Peterson and Mariah Smith win Atlantic Draw first-round matches, and Tigers freshman Haley Tucker breezed past Covenant's Claire Luger before falling to Emory's Paula Castro. Liles and Davila won twice together in doubles and are in today's quarterfinals, while Tucker with Crumbliss and Bea Benavides with Childress won before falling to Emory duos.
