Georgia's Lambert struggles while Tide's Coker soars Alabama hands Georgia worst home defeat of Richt era, 38-10 Chubb ties Herschel with 13th straight 100-yard game

ATHENS, Ga. - Highlights were few and far between for Georgia during Saturday's humbling loss to Alabama, but sophomore tailback Nick Chubb did provide one.

Chubb broke free for an 83-yard touchdown run with five seconds remaining in the third quarter, which capped the scoring in Georgia's 38-10 dismantling. The 5-foot-10, 220-pounder from Cedartown finished with 20 rushes for 146 yards as he extended his streak of consecutive 100-yard games to 13.

Herschel Walker also had 13 straight 100-yard games during the 1980-81 seasons.

"That feels good, but I would rather win," Chubb said afterward. "Alabama has big, physical, fast guys, and they dominated tonight. You don't come into a game thinking this can happen, but it happened, so we've got to learn from it."

Before his long run, Chubb had been held to 63 yards on 18 carries, an average of 3.5 yards per rush.

"I was glad for the kid," Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said of Chubb tying Walker's school record. "I was glad for Georgia to see us get in the end zone. I heard some cheering. That was nice."

Offering congrats

Georgia second-year defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt spent six seasons on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama, including three (2010-12) as the Tide's secondary coach. Pruitt congratulated several of his former co-workers after the game.

The Crimson Tide racked up 327 yards through three quarters against Pruitt's unit before letting the air out in the final 15 minutes.

"Those guys deserved it," Pruitt said. "When you go into these games, somebody is going to win and somebody is going to lose. Regardless, the sun is going to come up tomorrow.

"You tell them congratulations, and the next time you play them, you hope you're on that side."

Tide tidbits

Alabama now has 36 non-offensive touchdowns in the Saban era following Minkah Fitzpatrick's return of a blocked punt and Eddie Jackson's return of an interception. Fitzpatrick's score was the Tide's first off a blocked punt since the 2013 win over Colorado State. Senior defensive lineman Jarran Reed has had at least five tackles in every game this year and had a season-high eight against the Bulldogs. Junior tailback Derrick Henry has rushed for 806 yards in his last six games dating back to last season and has scored a touchdown in 10 consecutive games. Representatives of the Sugar, Peach, Citrus and TaxSlayer bowls attended Saturday's game.

Bulldogs bites

Richt dropped to 3-3 against Alabama after a third straight loss to the Tide, and he is 2-5 against Saban-coached teams. Touted freshman defensive lineman Trenton Thompson made his first career start. Junior inside linebacker Tim Kimbrough had a career-high 13 tackles. Sophomore receiver Isiah McKenzie suffered a hamstring injury on a second-quarter kickoff return and did not return to the game. Family members of Devon Gales, the Southern University player who suffered a spinal cord injury in last week's game, were honored during a time out in the first quarter. The Bulldogs wore a "33" decal on their helmets in honor of Gales.
