THE MATCHUP

UTC's offensive line against the defensive front seven of the Gamecocks. This matchup was controlled by Jacksonville State last year, which is part of the reason the Mocs didn't reach positive yards offensively until the second half. The JSU front four features transfers from Alabama and Auburn, but UTC's offensive line has improved as well, with that group now a year older and potentially better with the return of guard Synjen Herren from a torn ACL suffered before the 2014 season opener and the addition of Georgia transfer Josh Cardiello.

ONE TO WATCH

He's such an easy choice, but UTC quarterback Jacob Huesman will be one of those Mocs looking for revenge against the Gamecocks. Last season, the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder accounted for just 49 yards of total offense - passing and rushing - against JSU. He's the player who's at the controls of the UTC offense, with the ability to tuck the ball and run as well as hand the ball off in the read option. Equally important has been his passing ability, which has improved with an additional year of seasoning and an offensive line that should be able to protect him longer against the Gamecocks' stout front.

IN THE END

Winners answer the bell when called. This game won't make or break the Mocs' season, but a win could certainly jump-start it. The Gamecocks dominated on both sides of the ball last year, and the Mocs remained competitive by returning two interceptions for touchdowns. The Mocs - specifically the offensive linemen - are tired of hearing about how badly they were dominated. The Gamecocks' front is above average, but look for the Mocs to make one more play in their first 1-0 start since 2009.

PREDICTION: Mocs 35, Gamecocks 31
