Sewanee doubles partners Eric Roddy and Jack Gray from Chattanooga and Baylor School already are Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III All-Americans after winning the ITA Atlantic South Regional title this past weekend. Roddy, a senior, and Gray, a freshman, won Sunday's final 9-7 against an Emory duo. The championship puts them in the eight doubles teams in the invitation-only USTA/ITA National Small College Championships being held Oct 15-18 at Sumter, S.C. Incidentally, Roddy was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor fraternity last Friday.

Volleyball

* University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Catherine Chason was the Southern Conference volleyball defensive player of the week and junior teammate Allie Davenport was the offensive player after the Mocs began league play with two wins over the weekend. Chason averaged 7.29 digs per set Friday and Saturday and totaled 37 in a 3-1 win over UNC Greensboro, which is the most by a SoCon player in a match this season. Davenport had 15 kills and a .429 attack percentage in that match and 17 kils with a .395 percentage in a 3-0 defeat of Western Carolina. "Allie is establishing herself as a force on the outside as an attacker and blocker. She has become a real point scorer and very efficient for our dynamic offense," Mocs coach Travis Filar said in a UTC release. "Catherine's confidence and level of play continue to soar, as she has been so consistent and disciplined." The Mocs play a conference match tonight at Wofford and host Mercer at 6 p.m. Friday.

* Covenant College went only 1-2 in volleyball last week, but two Lady Scots were so impressive that they were the USA South players of the week. Senior middle hitter Chelsea VanDyk was the offensive honoree after averaging 4.82 kills per set with a .588 hitting percentage for the three matches. She had 15 kills in a 15-0 win and 17 and 21 in 3-1 losses. Freshman libero Ariana Buchanan was the defensive player of the week for her 23 digs and four assists in each of the defeats.

Golf

* The Sewanee women's golf team won the Huntingdon Intercollegiate tournament Sunday and Monday at Montgomery, Ala., by 24 strokes, as senior Emily Javadi from Chattanooga and Baylor School was the medalist by a whopping 16 strokes with her 143. Her 70 and 73 were the two lowest rounds of the event. Tigers teammate Meghan Symonds tied for second place at 159, and Sophia Merrill and Alison Eleey also finished in the top 10 at 161 and 162.

* The Dalton State women's golf team is in second place at 314, seven shots behind host William Carey, after the first round of the 36-hole, seven-team Carey Collegiate at the Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss. DSC's Katie Dalton is tied for second individually at 75, and teammates Julia McQuilken and Caroline Griffin are tied for fifth and 10th at 77 and 78.

* The Dalton State men's golfers are seventh out of 15 teams midway through the Thomas University Fall Classic at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga. Keiser at 276 and Coastal Georgia at 280 lead the event. DSC is at 291 with Chase Jones tied for seventh individually at 70 and Adam Morris, Sean Elliott and Levi Nix shooting 72, 74 and 75.

* Although Sam Burrus tied for sixth at 143, the Lee women's golf team was ninth out of 14 teams in the Lander Lady Bearcat tournament at Bluffton, S.C. Lee's total was 605. St. Leo won by 16 strokes with a 571.

* The Georgia Northwestern men's golf team shot a 294 on Monday and takes a three-stroke lead over the host team into the final round today of the Reinhardt University Invitational at Callahan Golf Links in Waleska, Ga. The Bobcats' Jordan Estes and Chase Cole are the top two individuals at 70 and 71, and teammates Grant Allen and Tucker Venable are tied for 17th and 21st at 76 and 77.

Soccer

* Covenant College had the USA South women's soccer defensive player, goalkeeper Rachel Lemay, and rookie of the week, sophomore forward Allie Vannoy. Vannoy scored the goal in the Lady Scots' only game of the week, a 1-0 win over Ferrum, and Lemay was credited with six saves in earning the shutout.

Field Hockey

* Sewanee senior captains Emma Horgan and Janie Spilman were the Southern Athletic Association field hockey offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, as the Tigers improved to 6-0 with two weekend wins. Horgan totaled three goals and an assist as Sewanee outshot its two opponents 38-12, and Spilman led the limiting effort at the other end, including holding Hendrix star Holly Heeb to no shots.
