Sometimes it's just not your day.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team suffered a bad mix of unfortunate hitting, untimely fielding errors and ineffective pitching in what turned into an 11-0 loss to Georgia State in five innings Wednesday at Frost Stadium.

The Mocs (22-21) return to competition Monday at Tennessee Tech before playing four straight home games - against Tennessee State on April 20 before hosting an important three-game Southern Conference series against Mercer on April 23-24.

On Wednesday, the Mocs managed only two hits against the Panthers, both by Criket Blanco. They did a good job of putting the ball in play, but most went directly to Georgia State fielders.

"We hit the ball hard at people," UTC head coach Frank Reed said. "We made some good adjustments in the box. I'd rather be lucky than good; everything they hit found a hole."

The Panthers (22-21) scored four runs on three hits in the second inning, then broke the game wide open in the fifth after Reed had to pull starter Cori Jennings, who had been battling sickness. She was relieved by Kailey Palazzolo, who allowed six runs (five earned) in the final inning of play.

"It is what it is," Reed said. "We've lost games like this before; we've won games like this before. It won't be the last game we'll play. You win some, you lose some.

"We'll get better."

Kensey Caldwell and Brenna Skalski each had two hits for the Panthers. Annie Davis pitched the two-hitter for her fifth win of the season.
