University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Kayla Jones was named Tuesday to the All-Southern Conference women's tennis first team in both singles and doubles. Classmate Kelsey Coots joined her on the doubles first team and was a second-team singles choice along with Mocs sophomore Samantha Caswell from Baylor School. UTC's Luke Saunders received the men's Don Bunch/Buddy Hartsell Sportsmanship Award for the second year in a row, and he and Lucas Plesky were second-team all-conference in doubles with Plesky also second-team in singles. The UTC men will play at 10:30 a.m. Friday and the third-seeded Mocs women at 3 p.m. in the SoCon tournament quarterfinals at at the Champions Club. Admission is free. Jones was 12-5 at No. 1 singles this semester and 16-3 in doubles with Coots, who was 10-6 at No. 2 singles with Caswell 14-5 at No. 3, 6-1 in league matches.

Golf

* West Florida wiped out Lee University leads in the final round Tuesday and won both Gulf South Conference golf tournaments at Muscle Shoals, Ala. The men's championship went to a sudden-victory playoff that lasted two holes after medalist Chandler Blanchet's 25-foot birdie putt for the Argonauts on the 54th hole. Lee's Shea Sylvester finished second individually and was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Peyton Sliger. Caroline Moore and Callie Kitchens represented Lee on the women's all-tourney team. The Lady Flames finished at 897, one behind West Florida, and Moore was second individually at 221 with Kitchens tied for third at 222, Cailey Gino tied for ninth at 227 and Sam Burrus 11th at 228.

* Tennessee Tech's Hollee Sadler from Coffee County is tied for fifth place individually at 150 and Austin Peay's Jessica Cathey from Soddy-Daisy High School is tied for eighth at 151 after the second round Tuesday of the Ohio Valley Conference women's golf tournament at Owens Cross Roads, Ala. Tech's Maddie Everts from Notre Dame is tied for 23rd at 158.

* Dalton State senior Chase Jones from Chatsworth was the Southern States Athletic Conference men's golfer of the week after his individual win leading the team victory in the SSAC tournament at Montgomery, Ala. Jones shot a 71 and two 68s for his first collegiate win.

Baseball

* With an 11-inning nonconference 8-7 home victory Tuesday against Tusculum, the Lee University baseball team won for the 20th time in 23 games. Luke Toms was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs and Trenton Hill was 3-for-5 and scored twice for the Flames (28-14), and he had the winning hit in the 11th. Shae Durham was 2-for-2 and scored the game-ending run, while winning relief pitcher Kyle Briner and Chris Adams each was 2-for-5 and Ben Holland homered. Toms was the Gulf South Conference player of the week after going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs against Young Harris and 6-for-12 with three homers and seven RBIs in three games against Christian Brothers. He is batting .340 with 15 homers, 10 doubles and 48 RBIs. Holland also has 15 homers.

* The Tennessee Wesleyan baseball team, ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, defeated No. 3 Faulkner 9-3 on Tuesday in Athens and is now 34-9. Paolo Montezuma was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Cody Stroud hit a tiebreaking two-run home in the four-run sixth for the Bulldogs, who got two hits and an RBI apiece from Malik Stephens, Pedro Barrios and Marlor Villafana. Villafano and Alex Jenkins each scored twice.

* No. 18 Bryan College lost 11-8 in NAIA baseball Tuesday at Cumberland, but Crandon Wallace and Jesus Astudillo homered in defeat and Wallace and Justin Morhardt each had two RBIs. Langston Calhoun was 2-for-3 and Wallace, Evan Speicher and Preston King each was 2-for-5 for the Lions (32-14).

* Z Arima was 2-for-4 with four RBIs as Covenant won 9-4 in NCAA Division III baseball Tuesday at Berry. Grant Kierpa pitched eight innings and Luke Harvey was 3-for-5 for Covenant (21-17), while Caleb Bloye, Kyle Delk and Daniel Johnson each had two hits.

Track & Field

* Carson-Newman junior Tiana Mills from Chattanooga and Girls Preparatory School finished second in the triple jump, third in the long jump, fourth in the high jump and sixth in the discus in the South Atlantic Conference track and field meet last weekend at Hickory, N.C. CNU's T.J. Davis from Ooltewah was third in the men's long jump.
