Around the Region: Sewanee coach Dickie McCarthy gets 100th win

Corey Caulder's career-high 26 points led the Sewanee women's basketball team to a 79-70 home win Saturday against Berea. It was the 100th victory for coach Dickie McCarthy, who already had the most for the women's program. Hannah McCormack scored 17 points and Bella Taylor had 15, along with seven rebounds and six assists, for Sewanee (3-5), while Savannah Rose had 13 points and five assists and Sue Kim delivered seven of the Tigers' 24 assists. Bri Lanham and Bethanie Williams had 20 and 16 points and nine rebounds each for Berea (5-4). Caulder, who blocked three shots, was 6-of-8 on 3-point shots and had 17 points on 6-of-7 overall shooting in the first half.

- The Tennessee Wesleyan men's basketball team improved to 8-3 with a 96-90 win Saturday at Fisk University, and the Wesleyan won 78-64 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game at Columbia (S.C.) College. That made the Lady Bulldogs 6-7, 4-3 in league play. They trailed by 10 points in the first quarter but led 33-32 at halftime and got hot from the perimeter in the second half.

- Bryan's Lady Lions won 73-50 at St. Andrews and are 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the AAC, but the Lions are 2-11 and 0-6 after losing 78-76 at the North Carolina school. Amber Levi had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Megan Billingsby had 12 of each for the Lady Lions, who got 11 assists with nine points from Tristan McClellan and 10 points from Tonesha Allison. Connor Zinaich had 17 points and nine rebounds and Titus Gary scored 17 points and the winning basket for the St. Andrews men (3-7, 2-4), who overcame 23 and 21 points by Bryan's Tyler Yoder and Wray Fuller and 13 by Brice Cusick. Yoder hit five 3s.

- Birmingham-Southern's women's basketball team came to Covenant College on Saturday and won 70-60 in overtime as Camillia Carter scored 23 points and Jameice Holmes added 17, including six in overtime. Reserve Emma Grimes led Covenant (4-2) with four 3s and 16 points, while Aleigha Williams scored 15 and Joanna Smith had 10 plus 10 rebounds and four steals.

- The Covenant men's basketball team lost 93-62 late Friday night in Spokane, Wash., to Whitworth, which is ranked No. 7 in the D3Hoops.com poll, and played late Saturday against No. 4 Whitman in Walla Walla. Ben College was 6-of-8 on 3s in scoring 28 points for Whitworth (5-1), while Connor Sears led the Scots (4-3) with 12 points. Berto Dryden and Z Arima added 10 apiece, and Bailey Spragg and Dryden made five and three steals.

- In their Tim Walthour Memorial Tournament at the Rossville Athletic Center, the Georgia Northwestern basketball teams lost 83-46 to the Trinity women from Florida and 85-79 to Barber-Scotia's men on Friday, and they played the Southern Crescent Tech women and Georgia Gwinnett men on Saturday. In Friday's loss for the Bobcats (3-3), Alec Rattanaxay scored 19 points, including the steal and layup that had them within two points with 32.7 seconds to go, and Daniel Parrish, Darrius Fugh and Patrick Simmons added 14, 12 and 10. Sharqueva "Bunny" McCoy had 21 points and 16 rebounds and Katy Phillips scored 10 points in the Lady Cats' Friday loss.

- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga vice chancellor and athletic director David Blackburn will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without.
