The Sewanee men's basketball team improved to 5-3 for the season with a 91-80 win Monday night at Johnson University in Knoxville. That was the Tigers' second high-scoring win over the Royals in just over three weeks. Johnson is 4-10.

* Reinhardt University freshman Rebecca Cheeks from Ranger, Ga., and Sonoraville High School was selected the Appalachian Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the week after scoring 22 points in a 73-39 rout of St. Andrews and following with 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 70-63 win at Montreat. Cheeks shot 76 percent (19-of-25) in the two games, including 4-of-4 on 3-pointers against Montreat, and is averaging 16.9 points and 8.7 rebounds a game for the Lady Eagles, who take a 10-1 record into a home game this evening against Life University.

* Visiting Southern Crescent Tech beat Georgia Northwestern Tech 69-59 on Monday to send the Bobcats into their three-week holiday break with a 4-4 record. Darrius Fugh and Daniel Parrish scored 17 points each and Alec Rattanaxay had seven assists with eight points for GNTC, which trailed 22-8 early but got within 56-54 with 5:14 to go.

Soccer

* Sewanee senior Elizabeth Eidson was announced Monday as a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic All-South Region team for NCAA Division III. A member of the All-Southern Athletic Association first team for 2016, the defensive stalwart has a 3.50 grade point average as a psychology major. Sewanee's defense had five shutouts and a 1.42 goals-against average this past season.
