University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head football coach Russ Huesman has been offered the same position at the University of Richmond, according to sources.

The UTC administration has countered by putting together a financial package to attempt to keep Huesman in Chattanooga, another source said. That package is in the range of $315,000 to $325,000, although Richmond could offer substantially more money, possibly up to two times Huesman's current salary of $246,000.

The 1984 UTC alumnus has gone 59-37 in eight seasons at his alma mater, which included three consecutive Southern Conference championships (2013-15) and three Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances (2014-16). Prior to UTC, he was the defensive coordinator at Richmond from 2004-08, helping that program win a national championship in his final season.

Danny Rocco resigned at Richmond to accept the head coaching job at the University of Delaware earlier today, which opened the door for the Spiders to pursue Huesman. The Spiders went 10-4 last season, including a win over Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Virginia, before falling to Eastern Washington in the second round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
