Around the Region: Lee University's Cichowitz, Lanter Scholar All-Americans

Lee University had two women's soccer players named 2016 Scholar All-Americans for NCAA Division II: senior Kinsey Cichowitz from Buena Vista, Colo.., on the first team and junior Summer Lanter from Soddy-Daisy on the second team announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Both previously were named to the All-Gulf South Conference first team and All-South Region, and Cichowitz was a first-team NSCAA All-American after a senior season with 14 goals and two assists. She is a special education major with a 4.0 grade point average. Lanter, who had 11 goals and six assists, is a nursing major with a 3.92 GPA. "This is a very prestigious award," Lady Flames coach Chris Hennessey said in a Lee release. "Not only does it reflect the quality of work that Summer and Kinsey put in on the field, but also what they put in off the field academically."

Wrestling

- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team lost 26-12 on Friday at Ohio University but got a first-period pin from 184-pounder Bryce Carr, an 8-0 major decision from 14th-ranked 285-pounder Jared Johnson and a 12-5 decision from 165-pounder Justin Lampe. Johnson is 9-1 for the season. The Mocs take a 2-3 record in dual meets into a match at Kent State on Sunday.

Basketball

- Isaiah Box scored 24 points with 6-of-9 3-point shooting Friday as the Dalton State basketball team beat visiting Fisk University 97-67 in the Roadrunner Booster Club Classic at Mashburn Arena. That raised the Roadrunners' record to 6-1 going into today's 4 p.m. game against Cumberland University. J'Quayveon Williams scored 21 points, Sayvon Wilson had 16 points and eight rebounds and Carnilious Simmons had 10 rebounds with 11 points for Dalton State. David Patton and Joshua Madison scored 15 and 13 to lead Fisk.

Tennis

- The Chattanooga Tennis Association announced Friday the recent hirings of four staff members: Danielle Foster as local league coordinator for USTA adult leagues, Karen Ellis as local league coordinator for all CTA leagues, Rachel Faulkner as the Summer Junior Team Tennis local league coordinator and John Davis for the volunteer position of CTA board treasurer. Faulkner (chattjtt@gmail.com) has played for and helped with JTT in the past and has coordinated area Rally Cats programs. Captains meetings for Ellis's leagues (ctaleagues@gmail.com) are scheduled for Jan. 10 at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Champions Club, and a captains meeting for Foster's teams (ustachattanooga@gmail.com) is set for Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. in the CTA office.
