Sewanee was swept at home Sunday in a Southern Athletic Association basketball doubleheader with Birmingham-Southern, with the men's matchup between the top two teams in the league standings. The visiting Panthers won 59-53 to improve to 15-6 overall and remain undefeated in 10 league games this season, ending a streak of SAA home wins for the Tigers (14-7, 7-3) at 13 games. Sewanee starters Cody Jones and Keshonn Carter each had 15 points and were the only Tigers who scored in double figures, with teammate Brody Stone grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking two shots. In the women's game, Sewanee lost 79-62 despite another big scoring performance from freshman guard Bella Taylor, who had 30 points (for the second time in three games), five rebounds and two assists. Katie Wayne chipped in 10 points for the Tigers (11-9, 3-6). Birmingham-Southern (17-2, 7-2) led 21-12, 37-25 and 57-39 at the quarter breaks.

* Darrius Fugh had 23 points, nine rebounds and three steals in the Georgia Northwestern Technical College men's 74-60 win Saturday against Johnson-Florida, and Tyler Shropshire added 13 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists for the Bobcats (11-12). The GNTC women lost 78-25 to West Georgia Tech and remain winless through 15 games this season.

Softball

* Chattanooga State rebounded from a 1-2 opening day with three wins Saturday in Wallace State's tournament in Atmore, Ala., but they lost 4-3 to Lakeland on a walk-off home run Sunday. On Saturday, the Lady Tigers won 20-2 in five innings over Southern Union, with a 19-0 lead midway through the second, and then 4-2 over Wallace State and 9-1 in six innings against San Jacinto. Lillie McCrary was 2-for-2 with two home runs and five RBIs in the first game, and Alaeni Rayhad a homer with three RBIs in each of the next two, going 3-for-4 against San Jacinto when Courtney Styles was 3-for-3, also with a homer and three RBIs. Georgia Perimeter transfer Labrisha Washington was credited with two pitching wins andMorgan Boggess had the last one Saturday. On Sunday, Styles was 2-for-2 with a double, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs.

* Hallie Davis had two of the five home runs for Lee University as the Lady Flames beat Tuskegee 14-5 as the Gulf Coast Invitational softball tournament ended Sunday in Gulf Shores, Ala. Stevie Baird, NiaRaye Ceasar and Emily Dagnan also homered for Lee (5-3), which scored eight runs in the seventh. Baird, Courtney Crawford and Amanda Lynn each went 3-for-4, and Baird drove in four runs. Angie Hughes (2-2) struck out seven while pitching for the win.

* Cleveland State followed its two wins Friday in the Georgia Highlands Border Battle in Cartersville with another sweep Saturday, 3-2 in eight innings against East Georgia and 5-3 against West Georgia Tech. Kara Headrick and Kaley Caglepitched the complete-game wins, Headrick with nine strikeouts.

Baseball

* Senior pitcher Trent Hill was stellar on the mound and at the plate as Lee completed a three-game sweep of its season-opening series against Albany State by beating the Rams 9-1 Sunday in Cleveland. Hill struck out nine, hit one batter, walked none and allowed a hit and a run in five innings to earn the win, and he also went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. No other player had more than one hit for the Flames, but MJ Brown drew three walks, and Tyler Payne andGeremy Walton each twice reached base on balls. Lee reliever Kyle Briner allowed one hit and a walk in the sixth inning, and Christian Bokich, Rob Gustitus and Corbin Lamb kept the Rams off base in the seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.

* Sewanee lost 7-1 Sunday at home as LaGrange completed a sweep of the season-opening series for both teams, with the Panthers following up a pair of victories on Saturday. The Tigers were held to four hits, none of them for extra bases, and they got their only run when Trey Akins scored on an error.
