The Lee University basketball teams almost pulled off a Gulf South Conference road sweep Saturday in Carrollton, Ga. After the Lady Flames won 67-52 with strong first and fourth quarters, the Lee men fell 80-79 to West Georgia after scoring the game's last eight points. Freshman point guard Haris Price had 17 points with four assists and three steals and Kayla Beaver scored 15 points for the Lady Flames (9-4, 6-1), while Christina Johnson had 10 points and nine rebounds, Carrie Cheeks grabbed eight rebounds and Erin Walsh had five assists and three blocked shots with nine points. West Georgia's Terriana Cave had a game-high 21 points. Iakeem Alston had 19 points and five assists for the West Georgia men (8-4, 5-2), who made 18 steals with five from Steph Branch. Lee (3-9, 1-6) committed 29 turnovers but shot 57.1 percent from the field, including 8-of-10 on 3-point tries. Rico Overall scored 16 points and Keevin Tyus had 13 plus 10 rebounds for the Flames, who got 12 points on 4-of-4 3-point shooting by Bryce Copeland and 10 points, five assists and three steals by C.J. Reese.

* Second-semester addition Rudy Winters scored 19 points for Dalton State, including seven of the Roadrunners' final eight, as they edged Loyola (La.) 70-67 in Southern States Athletic Conference basketball Saturday in New Orleans. Jalen Robinson, playing in his second DSC game, had 15 points and Jordan Bowling added 11 for the Roadrunners (11-2, 3-0), ranked No. 9 in NAIA Division I with 11 wins in a row.

* Amber Levi scored 17 points with three 3s and Keila Formont had six assists with 10 points and seven rebounds as Bryan's nationally 17th-ranked Lady Lions began an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep with an 80-60 victory Saturday against visiting St. Andrews. Bryan won the men's game 95-71 with 29 points, 18 rebounds and five assists from Brandon Cole, 13 points and 11 rebounds from Brice Cusick, 13 points and five assists from Tyler Yoder and seven assists from Oteriah Lee. Jeff Gulley had 25 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in defeat. Erisha Talley scored 11 points and Megan Billingsby had a team-high eight rebounds with nine points for the Lady Lions (14-1, 6-0). Alana Artis led St. Andrews with 17 points.

* The Tennessee Wesleyan women's basketball team improved to 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the AAC with a 67-46 home win Saturday over visiting Columbia (S.C.) College. The Wesleyan men routed Pensacola Christian in a nonconference game, 90-63, and now are 10-1.

* The Covenant College men's basketball team overcame a 17-point halftime deficit with a 19-1 run in the second half but still lost 73-64 at home to LaGrange in the Scots' USA South opener Saturday. The game was tied at 64 with four minutes to go, but Mark Wagner scored seven of his 13 points for LaGrange (9-2, 2-0) the rest of the way. Justyn Olson led the winners with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Ben Phelps and Patjo Twagirayezu scored 13 points each for Covenant (5-6). The LaGrange women (7-2, 1-0) won 66-47 as the Lady Scots (2-7, 0-2) shot 30.9 percent from the field and 16.7 percent (5-of-30) from 3-point distance. Aleigha Williams led Covenant with 10 points and four assists, while Joanna Smith had nine rebounds.

* UTC men's basketball assistant coach Jesse Bopp will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. The Mocs are 12-2 and opened their Southern Conference schedule with a win Saturday at The Citadel, and they host Mercer on Tuesday.

Soccer

* The Covenant College women's soccer team was presented an NSCAA Silver Award for Team Ethics for the fourth year in a row last week. There were 82 college men's and women's teams that received Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze versions of the coaches association's award for general fair play and sporting behavior and a relative lack of yellow and red cards through the season. Coach Mark Duble's Lady Scots went 10-5-1 in 2015.

Football

* Former Silverdale Baptist Academy football coach Don Kelley of Harrison died Friday at the age of 71. A native of Spokane, Wash., who grew up in Portland, Ore., Kelley worked in the rubber industry and most recently was national sales manager for Mission Rubber Co. based in Corona, Calif. His sports interests included baseball, basketball and golf in addition to football. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held there at 11:30 Wednesday.
