Lynn Trent, who spent 50 years as the official scorekeeper for University of Tennessee at Chattanooga basketball and football games, died Saturday at the age of 68. The Chattanooga High School graduate and Hall of Fame member, who earned nine varsity letters while at the school, started working at UTC as a student assistant sports information director in 1966. He graduated in 1970 with a degree in secondary education and mathematics and decided to remain on staff as the head scorekeeper in addition to teaching math for 23 years. He was on hand for 265 consecutive UTC football games, finally having to miss one in 2015 due to a sickness in the family. He had become a tax preparer. His death hit a number of former Mocs hard, including one of the school's most famous alums, Dennis Haskins. "To all who knew Lynn this is truly sad news," the Notre Dame High graduate, most famously known as principal "Mr. Belding" in the 1990s hit sitcom "Saved by the Bell" said in an email. "I was always the better for having seen Lynn on any trip home and know no one more dedicated to or who loved the Mocs any more than Lynn." Trent is survived by his wife, Katherine Houck Trent, son Leighton Richard Trent grandson Will Trent and siblings Laura Trent and Bill Trent. Arrangements will be announced by Wann Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

* UTC received the Academic Progress Rate Award, sponsored by Forward Progress, for leading the Southern Conference football programs in APR improvement from the 2013-14 to the 2014-15 measuring period. Each of the NCAA's 13 Football Championship Subdivision conferences has one winner of the APR honor, and they were presented the awards at the FCS Athletics Directors Association banquet last week in Dallas. The Mocs' single-year score was 992, their highest on record, and that raised their four-year APR average to 973.
