University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestlers John Lampe, Sean Mappes and Michael Pongracz received at-large bids Tuesday to the NCAA tournament March 17-19 in New York City, joining Southern Conference champions Scottie Boykin and Kamaal Shakur and heavyweight runner-up Jared Johnson from the Mocs. Lampe, Mappes and Pongracz also were runners-up in the SoCon tournament. Pongracz (22-4) lost in overtime in the finals. Lampe is 20-5, Mappes 17-10.

Golf

* With Wes Gosselin shooting a final-round 66 Tuesday and tying for sixth individually at 1-under-par 209, the UTC men's golf team shot a season-best 282 and shared fourth place with East Carolina in the 18-team Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate tournament at Aiken, S.C. Their 861s were four strokes out of third. Gosselin's round and 54-hole total both were his best scores in college competition. Teammates Andrew Weathers (70), Brooks Thomas and Lake Johnson totaled 216, 219 and 221. South Carolina was the team winner by 18 strokes at 821.

* The UTC women's golfers finished fifth out of 17 teams with a final-round 298 Tuesday and a 904 total in the UNF Collegiate tournament at Jacksonville (Fla.) Golf and Country Club. Houston won by 10 strokes at 878. UTC's Emily McLennan and Megan Woods tied for 14th and 16th individually at 223 and 226, while Cris Perez tied for 26th at 228 with a closing 72 and Monica San Juan tied for 35th at 230.

* The Dalton State women handled tough weather issues better than any other team Tuesday and won the Loyola New Orleans Invitational by three strokes over Coastal Georgia, 653 to 656, at Slidell, La. DSC's Katie Dalton shot even-par 72 and finished second individually at 153 in what coach Jim McGrew called "the worst (conditions) that we have ever had to deal with," and teammates Julia McQuilken, Caroline Griffin and Erika Wardzinski were fourth, seventh and eighth at 1666, 168 and 169 with Carly Shane tied for 13th at 171.

* Dalton State's men finished fourth at 903 in the 12-team Sand Shark Classic at Oldfield Golf Course in Aiken, S.C., with SSAC rival Coastal Georgia (873) winning for the third year in a row. Host SC-Beaufort was second at 900 and Faulkner was third at 902. DSC seniors Chase Jones and Levi Nix finished seventh and eighth at 221 and 222, and junior Austin Hughes tied for 19th at 227.

Baseball

* Paul Kirby went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs as Carson-Newman beat visiting Lee University 11-3 in nonconference NCAA Division II baseball Tuesday. Ben Holland was 3-for-5 with an RBI for Lee (8-11), while Geremy Walton was 2-for-4 and Ty Broady homered and scored twice. The Eagles are 14-5 with 11 wins in a row, giving Tom Griffin 301 in his 11th season as their coach, with 231 losses. The former Tennessee Wesleyan star catcher is 485-409-1 as a college coach.

* Justin Morhardt's walk in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Bryan College a 5-4 win over Martin Methodist in NAIA baseball Tuesday. The Lions (14-6) scored a run in the eighth for a 3-3 tie and scored two in the ninth. With two outs, Crandon Wallace singled, Evan Speicher doubled him to third and Preston King was hit by a pitch after an intentional walk. Then came the second walk for Morhardt, who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

* Third-ranked Faulkner (16-4) edged No. 14 Tennessee Wesleyan 3-2 in NAIA baseball Tuesday in Montgomery, Ala., dropping the Bulldogs to 12-5. Monday at home, Wesleyan beat Madonna 14-5 as Omar Gomez went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs, Alfred Cruz was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Chevis Hooper also had three RBIs and Cody Stroud had a homer and a sacrifice fly. Ryan Lambrecht was 3-for-4 with two homers for the Michigan team.

* Cody Smith was 5-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs scored as Hampden-Sydney beat Sewanee 16-9 in Division III baseball Tuesday. Tyler Minkkinen and Derek Hullings each was 4-for-5 for Sewanee (1-18), and Ryan Poole had three hits and matched Drew Mancuso with three RBIs.
