Softball

* ProStar Fastpitch and Ridgeland High School softball player Jazzmyn Shelton (Woody) is headed on scholarship to play next year for Miles College, an NCAA Division II school in Fairfield, Ala. "Jazzmyn possesses outstanding speed and has played the infield, outfield and catcher," ProStar founder Steve Chattin said, noting that her athletic versatility also has included basketball and track at Ridgeland. "She joined our program in late August and has quickly established herself as the fastest player in our organization. I have been very impressed with her work habits and her coachability." Chattin said she also drew interest from Georgia Gwinnett, Tennessee State, Brewton-Parker and Cleveland State, among others. Jazzmyn said she "lost count" of the times Miles coach Patrick Peasant came to watch her play, and she directed her greatest thanks to her mother. "I have overcome a lot of obstacles in my life both on and off the field and could not have done it without my mom," she said. "I never dreamed I would get the chance to play in college, but my mom kept telling me that I could do whatever I put my mind to achieving."
