Around the Region: Lee men's basketball team goes 1-1 in Florida

A day after his 3-pointer delivered the Lee University's men's basketball team to a buzzer-beating win against the hosts of the Joe McCormick Classic, senior guard Rico Overall scored 17 points but the Flames lost 79-69 to Lynn University on Sunday at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Fla. Jervon Johnson and Keevin Tyus added 11 points apiece and Cody Jones had 10 for Lee (3-2), which held its only lead at 55-53 with 7:05 to play. Marquan Botley scored 31 points to lead Lynn (2-3), which led just 65-62 with 2:53 remaining in the game but made a 3-pointer and 12 straight free throws in the final 2:19 to pull away.

- Bella Taylor had 15 points, six assists and two steals as Sewanee's women lost 73-55 to Ferrum on Sunday in Lexington, Ky. It was the fifth straight road game to start the season for the Tigers, who will play two more away before their home opener next month. Corey Caulder and Savannah Rose each added 12 points for Sewanee (2-3), with Caulder adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Rose five assists and four rebounds. Zarkia Mattox had 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead Ferrum (3-3).

- Gina Dick (20 points) and Hunter Simpson (12) were the only Tennessee Wesleyan players who scored in double figures as the Lady Bulldogs lost 85-53 to Southeastern University of Lakeland, Fla., on Sunday in their second of two games at the NAIA DII Showcase in Kingsport, Tenn. Dick was 3-for-6 from 3-point range and 5-for-6 on free throws, and she grabbed six rebounds. Simpson was 8-for-10 at the foul line and had eight rebounds before fouling out in the final minutes. Lindsey Macon had a team-best five assists for Tennessee Wesleyan (4-5). Bailey Hooker scored a game-high 20 points and was one of four players in double figures for the Flame (7-0).
