Less than three weeks after finishing second as the No. 2 seeds in the USTA National Men's 55 Grass Court Championships in Michigan, Wesley Cash of Chattanooga and Mark Vines of Naples, Fla., are seeded No. 1 and won their quarterfinal Tuesday in the clay court nationals at Savannah, Ga. They won 6-0, 6-4 over Barry Balthrop of Silver Spring, Md., and David Yvanovich of San Jose, Calif., and will play Bruce Levelle of Portland, Ore., and Brian Campbell of Washington, D.C., today unless Hurricane Matthew interferes. Levelle and Campbell beat the No. 3 seeds in three sets.

Golf

* As Shea Sylvester finished fourth individually Tuesday with his third consecutive 69, the Lee University men's golf team was eighth out of 18 teams with an aggregate 865 in the NCAA DII Preview at Reunion, Fla. Led by Lynn at 845, six of the top seven teams were from Florida. Matt Johnson, Corey Sheppard, Adam Wright and Dylan Lillard shot 219, 220, 221 and 222 for Lee.

* The Dalton State golf teams both finished second in tournaments at Palm Harbor, Fla. The men tied for second in the Sand Shark Invitational at 886 behind the NAIA's top-ranked Oklahoma City at 881, as the DSC Roadrunners' S.M. Lee tied for second individually at 215 and Dalton Johnson and Adam Morris also finished in the top 20 at 224 and 225. Chase Cole, Sport Allmond and Ben Rebne shot 228, 228 and 229. The female Roadrunners (617) were second to SCAD Savannah (612) in the USCB Innisbrook Invitational with Caroline Griffin fourth individually at 150, Tia Teiniketo ninth at 154 and Isabel Rijos tied for 11th.

Soccer

* Lee University goalkeeper Daniel Hrenko was the Gulf South men's soccer freshman of the week after allowing one goal in two matches and making 13 saves on 33 shots. He had been defender of the week the week before.

* The Tennessee Wesleyan men's soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season, 2-0 Saturday at Georgia Gwinnett, with a 5-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference on Tuesday against visiting Montreat. That made the Bulldogs 7-1-3, 3-0 in the AAC. The Lady Bulldogs are 6-4, 2-2 after beating Montreat 4-0 with goals from Jessica Young, Heidi Butler, Nicole Broderick and Amy Panayi and two assists apiece from Broderick and Dayna Randall.

* The Covenant and Sewanee men's soccer teams tied 1-1 in overtime Tuesday night at Sewanee, where the 5-5-2 hosts scored just 1:11 in on Ryan MacDonald's assist for Matt Hawse. An own goal completed the scoring at 62:04, and keepers Will Merriman and Paul Lemay had eight and six saves. The Scots are 1-8-2. The Sewanee women lost 1-0 at Emory and now are 5-6-1. The Eagles (7-3) outshot the Tigers 33-3 but scored only in the 69th minute as Samantha Bourgeois made eight saves.

Volleyball

* Union University defeated visiting Lee 3-0 in Gulf South volleyball Tuesday night. The set scores were 25-20, 26-24, 25-13. Silvia Sartori and Catherine Conley had seven kills apiece, Sartori with 13 digs, and Sadie Johnson and Kristi Farley had 15 and 10 assists for Lee (5-8, 2-6). MaKayla Beebe had 12 digs.

* Rachel Mosley downed 15 kills and Hannah Smith and Hope Burnett added 12 and 10 as Bryan College edged host Bluefield 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-15, 15-5) in an AAC volleyball match Tuesday. Shelby Enochs, the league's reigning setter of the week, had 50 assists and Kayla Rymer had 18 digs for Bryan (13-8, 8-4).

* Tennessee Wesleyan won 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20) in AAC volleyball against visiting Reinhardt as Sundara Chinn and Sierra Ingraham had 15 and 13 kills and 14 and 11 digs and Alexan Crittenden set 35 assists. Kailyn Lillie had 19 digs for TWU (8-12, 6-6).

* Dalton State lost 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-12) to visiting Life. Anna Metzler had 11 kills and 10 digs for DSC (5-11), while Ryan Burke and Julia Borges had eight and seven kills and Brooke Thomas and Clarissa Weber had 16 and 13 assists. Karly Newman led in digs with 15.
