THE MATCHUP
Mercer's Bears have been able to run the ball very effectively against the Mocs in their previous two meetings, with some misdirections and reverses leading to big gains. The UTC defense, which is currently ranked third in the country against the run, will have a challenge in stopping a Bears rushing attack that averages over 200 yards per game in conference play.
ONE TO WATCH
Derrick Craine had more than 100 yards on the ground against the Bears last season but had one costly fumble late in the game. That was uncommon for a player who had only two fumbles in the 2015 season, and it's easy to believe that the 5-foot-10, 205-pound senior hasn't forgotten that moment and is ready to make up for it.
IN THE END
This budding rivalry has had a lot of intrigue over the past couple of seasons, with Mercer failing on a couple of potential game-tying passes in the end zone in 2014 and, of course, winning at Macon, Ga., last season. This time, the Mocs will jump out to a lead and not allow for late dramatics in improving to 6-0 for the season.
