Sewanee's soccer teams split a home Southern Athletic Association doubleheader with Birmingham-Southern on Sunday, with the women winning 2-0 and the men losing 2-1 in overtime. In the women's match, Tyler Edell and Savannah Williams scored in a three-minute span late in the first half - Edell on Mary Frank's assist in the 35th minute and Williams after being set up by Katie Morrison in the 38th- and Samantha Bourgeois made six saves for the Tigers (7-6-1, 4-0), who had a 20-7 edge in shots on Birmingham-Southern (4-9, 1-1). In the men's match, Zach Birkhead turned Kyle Johnston's 89th-minute assist into a tying goal for the Tigers (6-6-2, 1-3), but Birmingham-Southern (8-4, 2-2) scored in the 99th minute to win.

- Lee University was swept by West Florida in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader Sunday, with the women falling 1-0 and the men losing 3-2 in overtime. Trailing 2-0, the Flames (4-5-1, 3-1-1) got second-half goals from David Perez and Arturo Rocha on assists by Rocha and Danny Johnston, but a 99th-minute score by West Florida (4-5-1, 3-1-1) ended the match. The Lady Flames (8-2-1, 5-1) were outshot 11-3 by West Florida (9-3, 7-0).

- Dalton State College lost 4-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference men's soccer Saturday night at William Carey (8-1-1, 2-0). The Roadrunners dropped to 9-1-1, 3-1. William Carey's women (11-1, 3-0) beat Dalton State's first-year team 6-1. Brittany Jensen scored for the Roadrunners (6-4-1, 2-2), who were outshot 35-4.

Cross Country

- The Covenant College women finished third out of nine teams and the Covenant men were fourth Saturday at the Piedmont Invitational in Tallulah Falls, Ga. Five Lady Scots had personal bests for 6 kilometers, led by Lilly Smith in fifth place at 25:07 and Hannah Samuels 12th at 25:54. Margaret Fitch was 20th and Anna Danek was 24th. The Scots' Micah Sneller was third in the 8k at 29:12, and Matthew Tueller, Nathan Bierema, Caleb Keitt and Phil Carrenard were 17th, 20th, 22nd and 24th. Piedmont won both team titles.
