Brooks Thomas had two rounds of 3-under-par 69 to lead the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team into a tie for sixth place Monday in the 13-team AutoTrader.com Collegiate tournament at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga. The Mocs go into the final round at 573, 23 shots behind leader Ole Miss. Thomas is fourth individually with Wes Gosselin tied for 14th at 142 (also opening with a 69) and Etienne Brault, Will Porter and Lake Johnson at 146, 148 and 149. Playing as an individual, Stuart Thomas is tied for 20th at 143. Mikey Feher from Baylor School led Lipscomb to third place with his ninth-place 140 capped by a 65.

* The UTC women's golfers are eighth at 621 out of 13 teams after Monday's two rounds in the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate at Ridgeway Country Club, led by Holly Morgan sharing 19th individually at 154, Monica San Juan at 155, Maria Pineiro at 156 and Cristina Perez at 157.

* Lee University's women's golf team is second at 301, nine strokes behind Montevallo, after Monday's opening round in the 13-team LeeAnn Noble Memorial at Dahlonega, Ga. Lee's Sam Burrus and Annika Gino are in a six-way tie for fourth individually at 71, and Cailey Gino is at 77 with Caroline Moore at 78.

* Paced by Adam Wright in a tie for third place individually at 141, the Lee men are fourth out of 14 teams in the TVA Credit Union Invitational at Turtle Point in Killen, Ala. The Flames are at 586 after 36 holes led by North Alabama's 569. Also for the Flames, Shea Sylvester is tied for 10th at 145, Matt Johnson is at 149 and Corey Sheppard and Dylan Lillard are at 153.

* Dalton State's Adam Morris shared the day's best round, 3-under 69, and teammate Dalton Johnson is tied fourth at 70 as the Roadrunners took the team lead Monday at 287 in the Bojangles Tennessee Intercollegiate at Loudon. DSC's S.M. Lee and Ben Rebne added 74s, tying for 12th, and Chase Cole had a 73 playing as an individual.

* Sewanee's Nick Powell was the medalist with a 1-under-par 143 in the Jim English Centre Invitational that ended Sunday in Danville, Ky. Sewanee finished sixth as a team at 620.

Auto Racing

* Josh Powell from Trenton won the Super Pro class and $2,500 Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip. He won with a 6.31-second burst on a 6.30 dial in a 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup powered by a modified 4534 small-block Chevy engine built by his father, Rocky Powell. Ben Parker of Rock Spring was second with a 6.01 run on a 6.00 dial in a 1976 Chevy Vega. Keith Murphy of Calhoun, Ga., won the Foot Brake Class and $1,000 with a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger just bought from his grandfather, L.C. Bigham, and Chrysler cars also were the other three finalists. Kat Cross from Cleveland was the Junior Dragster winner with Khloe Wilson from Flintstone second, and Bud Calhoun of Rossville won the Motorcycle class with Brian Wilson second. Austin Patrick of Calhoun had the night's low elapsed time (4.73) and top speed at 143-plus mph.

Volleyball

* Covenant College junior outside hitter Ginny Moore was the USA South volleyball player of the week for her averages of 3.85 kills and 4.46 digs per set in a 3-1 week for the Lady Scots.

* Six northwest Georgia teams have advanced to the second round of the GHSA state volleyball playoffs. One is Northwest Whitfield, which hosts Chapel Hill in Class AAAA today at 5:30 p.m. The others play Thursday with Class AAAA Ridgeland hosting Troup County at 5:30 and Class A Gordon Lee playing at Landmark Christian at 6:30. Class AAA Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe hosts Southeast Bulloch. Sonoraville will host tonight's Redan-Savannah winner, and Ringgold will play the Westminster-Groves winner. Those first-round matches were delayed until tonight because of the effects of Hurricane Matthew.

Soccer

* Covenant senior Kaitlyn Winkling was the USA South women's soccer defender of the week for her part in three shutout wins in three matches. She also scored the first goal of her college career.
