Kristy Wieser and Dani Szczepanski each registered eight kills and Emily Plumlee had seven and was in on five blocks as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team won 3-0 in a Southern Conference match Friday at Furman. The set scores were 25-16, 25-19, 25-23. Lauren Greenspoon had 21 assists and Madison Bergren added 13 for UTC (14-10, 7-4), and Rachel Petkosh led in digs with 13. Miranda Elpers served three aces in the Mocs' first win at Furman since November 1999.

- Lee University beat visiting Valdosta State 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) in Gulf South Conference volleyball as Brooke Wilsman and Silvia Sartori had 12 and 11 kills and 10 and 12 digs and Carly Callahan and Catherine Conley added 10 and eight kills. Also for Lee (11-12, 7-8), Sadie Johnson had 27 assists, three aces and 10 digs, Kristi Farley had 16 assists and MaKayla Beebe had 22 digs.

- Tennessee Wesleyan lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) to visiting Cumberland in NAIA volleyball Friday. Sierra Ingraham had nine kills and Alexan Crittenden had 22 assists for TWU (13-16), and Kailyn Lillie and Sundara Chinn had 13 and 11 digs.

- Dalton State lost 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-16) to Bethel in Southern States volleyball Thursday night in McKenzie, Tenn., and is 8-15, 7-9 in the SSAC. Bethel is 20-5, 13-2.

Soccer

- The Lee men's soccer team lost 2-1 at Shorter on Friday and is 9-6-2, 4-3-2 in the GSC. A David Perez goal in the 90th minute prevented a shutout.

- Former Tennessee Wesleyan standout and Hixson and Notre Dame high school coach Pepe Fernandez is the USA South men's soccer coach of the year after guiding Maryville College to a 15-2 overall record and 9-1 league mark through the regular season. Junior midfielder Nate Mackey is Covenant's all-sportsmanship honoree.

- The Trevecca Nazarene women's soccer team won the Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season with four local starters: senior defender Abbie Alosi from Silverdale Baptist, junior midfielder Mackenzie Nadeau from Notre Dame and freshmen Riley Engels from Signal Mountain and Leah Hoffman from Chattanooga Christian. Engels is a midfielder, Hoffman a defender. The Trojans are 13-4-1 overall, 11-3 in the G-MAC, going into the tournament semifinals they will host Thursday. Engels scored the first goal in the 3-2 overtime win over Kentucky Wesleyan that clinched the regular-season title.

- Rury Alvarez assisted on a tying goal in the 89th minute and on Santiago Moore's winning shot in the second overtime as Dalton State defeated visiting Bethel 2-1 in SSAC men's soccer Thursday night. Enrique Ruiz had the equalizer at 88:08 for the Roadrunners (11-1-1, 5-1). The Dalton State women (8-5-1, 3-3) edged Bethel 3-2 with second-half goals by Adriana Romera, Akelia Raines and Rosie Lindo from assists by Juliana Gomez, Lindo and Romera. Lindo's goal at 89:55 followed scores by Bethel's Melinda Sopka at 86:21 and 88:53.

Basketball

- The Bryan College women's basketball team began its season Friday with a 72-48 home win over Webber International, but the Bryan men lost 88-86 to Webber and are 1-1. Erisha Talley scored 18 points and fellow senior Megan Billingsby grabbed 18 rebounds for the Lady Lions, who got 11 points and four assists from freshman Tristan McClellan. Reagan Johnson had 27 points and eight rebounds, Wray Fuller scored 21 points and Oteriah Lee had seven assists for the Lions. Fuller also scored 21 and Brice Cusick had 16 points and nine rebounds in their win Tuesday at Oakwood.

Tennis

- UTC's Sydney Patton won tennis singles matches Friday against UAB and Tulane players at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic at Tuscaloosa, Ala., and will play in the Patricia Morgan Draw final today. She also won with Delaney Edwards in doubles, and Edwards won and lost in singles and will play for third place in the Susan Carver Draw. The Mocs' Caroline Hall will play for third in the Jenny Ketchum Draw after beating Alabama's Juliane Valero and losing to a Clemson player.
