Around the Region: Golfweek ranks Sewanee No. 22 campus course in U.S.

Golfweek lists the Course at Sewanee in its top 30 as the 22nd-ranked campus golf course in the United States. This is the first time on the list for the 101-year-old nine-hole course that underwent major renovations in 2011 by Golf Magazine's 2009 architect of the year, Gil Hanse, who more recently designed the Olympics course in Brazil. The Course at Sewanee was named Golf Magazine's nine-hole U.S. renovation of the year in 2013. The Course at Yale continues to hold the No. 1 Golfweek campus position, with Taconic Golf Club at Williams College second. Hanse also designed Taconic. Vanderbilt's Legends Club courses in Franklin, Tenn., are 19th (North) and 28th (South).

- Dalton State women's golf coach Jim McGrew announced that NAIA All-Americans Katie Dalton and Caroline Griffin will be joined in the opening lineup Monday through Wednesday at Covington, Ga., by three freshmen, including Tia Teiniketo from Baylor School. The others are Isabel Rijos from Columbus, Ga., and Haejin Choe from Live Oak, Fla. The tournament is the SCAD Atlanta Fall Invitational at The Oaks Course, and the other teams are Faulkner, Point, Reinhardt, Brenau, Union (Ky.), Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson.

Soccer

- The Lee University men's soccer team begins its season tonight by hosting Illinois-Springfield at 7 in the fifth annual Olive Garden Invitational tournament in Cleveland. Lee will face Lynn at 7 p.m. Saturday. Auburn-Montgomery will take on Lynn at 4:30 p.m. today and UIS at 4:30 Saturday. Lynn has won two NCAA Division II national championships and was 9-4-2 last year, when UIS was 4-12-2 and Lee was 11-5-2. Also beginning their seasons tonight, Sewanee's women play at Maryville while the men play at LaGrange, and Covenant's teams both play Berry - the men at Covenant, the women at Berry.

- The Bryan College women's soccer team scored a goal late in each half Wednesday night and won 2-1 at home against Life. Lesleigh Blackburn and Hana Mizoguchi scored for the Lady Lions (2-1) before Life scored in the 81st minute. Morgana Hardt da Silva had six saves in the win.
