The Bryan College men's soccer team is 5-0 after its third consecutive 3-1 victory. Tuesday's was at Bethel in McKenzie, Tenn., where Bryan's Charlie Clarke scored a tying goal just before halftime from a Rafael Mentzingen assist and Mentzingen and Joe Goreham scored in the second half. Alex Horton made seven saves.

* Tennessee Wesleyan senior forward Jordan Jacob was the Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer offensive player of the week for his three goals in the Bulldogs' two wins last week. He had the game-winner against NCAA Division II opponent Carson-Newman and two scores against nationally ranked Cumberland. He has six goals this season.

* Lee University won 3-1 at Trevecca Nazarene in men's soccer Tuesday night, as David Perez, Tanner Carter and Quade Marinell all scored in the first 47:16. Jose Orellana and Drew Jackson assisted Perez and Marinell, respectively, and the Flames (2-3) had a 23-7 dominance in shots.

* Abby Gienapp's first collegiate goal gave the Covenant College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory Tuesday night at Birmingham-Southern. The freshman headed in a Lizzy Hightower cross in the 28th minute for the Lady Scots (2-1), who had a 22-11 margin in shots.

Auto Racing

* Roofing contractor Derrick Pickle from Red Bank won the $2,500 top prize in the 7.00-second class by mere inches Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip. Pickle, a 25-year strip veteran, won in 7.00.2 in his 1985 Ford Mustang. Central High School student Jake Clayton was second at 7.00.5 in a 1987 Mazda. Tommy Shacklebee from Harrogate, Tenn., was the 6.00 class winner in 6.01 seconds with Ken Grant from Tifton, Ga., second in 6.02. Wes Moore from Georgetown in a 1963 Chevy was first with Jarred Hicks of Resaca second in a 1989 Mustang in Limited Street, Chris Miller and Braxton Hopkins were first and second in Easy Street and James Sikes of Calhoun, Ga., was first with Michael Newcomb second in Outlaw. Regular bracket racing returns this Saturday.

Volleyball

* Brooke Wilsman had seven kills, four aces and 10 digs as Lee University defeated Tuskegee 3-0 in volleyball Tuesday night in Cleveland. Set scores were 25-8, 25-8, 25-13. Kristi Farley and Sadie Johnson had 14 and 13 assists for the Lady Flames (3-2), and MaKayla Beebe served five aces.

* Bryan College got 10 kills from Paige Lawson and nine apiece from Hannah Smith and Hope Burnett in a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-23) AAC home win Tuesday against Columbia (S.C.). Smith also served seven aces, while Shelby Enochs had 37 assists and Kayla Rymer had 11 digs for the Lady Lions (8-4, 3-0). Tennessee Wesleyan won 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-21) at Allen University and is 4-7, 2-1.

* Sewanee lost 3-2 (25-22, 16-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-5) to Centre in their Southern Athletic Association volleyball opener Tuesday. Caroline Owens had 11 kills and Diamond Stewart had eight kills and 14 digs for Sewanee (6-2), while Anna Wilson and Constance Connelly had 25 and 20 assists and 12 and 15 digs. Sara Jayne Sutton had 22 digs, and Elizabeth Gill had seven kills.

* Georgia Northwestern's volleyball match Monday at Hiwassee was canceled. That followed a 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 19-25, 27-25) loss Saturday at Crown for the Lady Bobcats (1-3), who got 13 kills from Sierra Crew, 20 assists and seven kills from Serena Turner, 16 digs from Shelby Thompson and four aces apiece from Madalyn Morrison and Kaitlyn Castle.

Running

* Covenant College sophomore Lilly Smith repeated as the USA South women's cross country runner of the week after her program-record two-mile time of 12 minutes, 46 seconds at UTC's PowerAde Invitational last Friday. She broke Beth Burgess's record from 2011 by 16 seconds.

Field Hockey

* Sewanee freshman Ceara Caffrey was the Southern Athletic Association field hockey offensive player of the week after her four goals on six shots in weekend wins over Earlham and Lindenwood-Belleville. She had both game-winners.
