As a highlight of its fall exhibition schedule, the Lee University softball team is hosting its annual Strikeout Cancer tournament Saturday with Chattanooga State, Cleveland State, Bryan College and Snead State taking part. Four games are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or later on Butler Field on Lee's campus, and two games are set for adjacent Souther Field at 12:15 and 2:30 p.m. Each team will play two or three games. Admission is a $3 donation (ages 6 and older) for the cancer families the Lee program sponsors, and there will be a concession stand with chili, hot dogs, nachos and beverages as well as a bake sale. Also helping the sponsored families will be Strikeout Cancer shirts for $12.

Soccer

- A goal by Drew Jackson from a Jose Orellana assist just 7:18 in the match stood up to give Lee University a 1-0 men's soccer victory Thursday night against visiting North Georgia. The shots count was 19-15 in favor of Lee (4-3), which got seven saves from goalkeeper Daniel Hrenko.

- After two dramatic wins last week, the Lee women are ranked 13th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll for NCAA Division II. The Lady Flames (4-1-1) had dropped from 22nd out of the Top 25 with an 0-1-1 season start. Summer Lanter from Soddy-Daisy scored the winning goal against then-No. 1 Columbus State (now No. 9) in the 84th minute, and Suzanne Arant scored with four minutes left to play in the 1-0 defeat of North Alabama in a rematch of last year's Gulf South Conference tournament final. "Our team has worked very hard this year, and for our girls it's nice to see that hard work is paying off," Lady Flames coach Chris Hennessey said in a Lee release. "We have to continue to keep moving forward." They play Sunday at Shorter.

UTC Sports

- While the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team will be at home to face Samford on Saturday, the other UTC teams in action this weekend will be on the road - in four states. The women's soccer team plays tonight at Furman and Sunday at Wofford, while the volleyball Mocs play tonight at Samford and the men's tennis team will be in the Dale Short Invitational tournament today through Sunday at Middle Tennessee State. The men's golf team tees off today in the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at the Mirabel club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Twelve of its 15 teams made NCAA regionals last spring, and seven advanced to the NCAA championship tournament.
