Longtime teaching professional Eddie Jackson of LaFayette has been hired to coach the Georgia Northwestern Technical College golf team, and Silverdale Baptist Academy alumna Amber Weaver is a new assistant coach for GNTC women's basketball and volleyball. Jackson succeeds Jared Willerson, who resigned after the Bobcats' second consecutive top-three finish in the NJCAA Division III national tournament. Jackson was on LaFayette High School's 1976 state-championship golf team and played on scholarship at Middle Tennessee State before a three-year mini-tour career and 21 years as a teaching pro in Alabama, according to a GNTC release. Since 2005 he has been the club pro at LaFayette Golf Course, which now will be the Bobcats' home venue. "It's a great hire for us," athletic director David Stephenson said. "Not just to get someone of Eddie's teaching background and his background in golf, but to find someone of his character and someone with his background in the community." Said Jackson: "I'm very excited. This is the first time I've ever done anything other than run golf courses and give lessons, but it kind of ties into my profession." Weaver played basketball for Stephenson at SBA (along with volleyball) and currently teaches at Grace Academy. "Amber brings a knowledge, not just of sports but of team building," Stephenson said. "She'll be able to help our kids here develop, and her knowledge of volleyball is a bonus. She's done some coaching at the middle school level, and she loves kids. Even though these kids are bigger and older than the ones she's used to dealing with, I know she can handle it."
