Vols notes: Tennessee to face Oklahoma again in 2020, 2024

KNOXVILLE - Tennessee will get two more shots at beating Oklahoma in football.

The programs announced Monday that they will meet at Oklahoma in 2020 and at Neyland Stadium in 2024.

The Volunteers played Oklahoma in 2014 and 2015. The Sooners won both meetings, including a 31-24 comeback win in Knoxville in 2015.

A copy of the "football game agreement" posted to utsports.com Monday shows former Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart signed the contract on Feb. 28 that formalized the future meetings. His last day was Friday. New athletic director John Currie started Saturday.

Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione signed the agreement on March 6.

"The Tennessee series renews our commitment to marquee nonconference games," Castiglione said in an OU news release. "The games in 2014 and '15 demonstrated a tremendous respect between two storied programs, as well as between a pair of passionate fan bases, and so for the players, coaches and fans, we're excited to renew this high-profile series.

"In signing the contract for this new series, we worked together to allow for other conflicts. That's the reason we are not playing in back-to-back seasons."

The Oklahoma game on Sept. 12 will be Tennessee's second of the 2020 season. The Vols open against Charlotte on Sept. 5.

Oklahoma's trip to Knoxville is the first game UT has announced for its 2024 schedule.

Figuring out Kamara

Former UT running back Alvin Kamara, a potential early-round selection in the April 27-29 NFL draft, said Friday that, after starting his career at Alabama, spending a year at a community college and climbing the depth chart at UT, "it feels good, to say the least" to be a draft commodity.

The most common question he is receiving from NFL teams?

"They want to get a feel for me and what type of guy I am," he said. "A lot of teams are trying to figure me out, whatever that means."

Dobbs update

Former quarterback Josh Dobbs told reporters at UT's pro day on Friday that he'd had workouts with the Chargers, Saints and Panthers. He's reportedly met with the Titans, too, and now the Steelers.

Pittsburgh media reported that Dobbs was among a group of four players the Steelers brought to their facility on Monday. Dobbs' stock appears to be rising as the draft approaches.

Hiking the stairs

A handful of Vols football players participated in Monday's "Hike the Hill in Heels" event to kick off "Sexual Assault Awareness Month" on the UT campus. The event was moved indoors to Thompson-Boling Arena, due to rain. Participants, many of them wearing heels, walked up a flight of stairs and around the arena's concourse.

UT reached a nearly $2.5 million settlement last July in a lawsuit with eight women. The suit alleged the university violated Title IX regulations through a policy of indifference toward sexual assaults committed by athletes.
