East Tennessee State center fielder Mykeah Johnson from Northwest Whitfield hit a tiebreaking grand slam in the fifth inning and the Buccaneers beat UTC 10-5 Saturday to complete a sweep of their Southern Conference softball series in Johnson City. Kelsey Chernak from Ooltewah was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs for ETSU (20-19, 6-3). Aly Walker drove in four runs for UTC (12-30, 2-10) with a homer, a single and a sacrifice fly, and Katy Richardson also homered, while Emma Sturdivant was 3-for-4 and scored twice and Brook Womack, Halie Williamson, Hayleigh Weissenbach, Amy Lewis and Jesslyn Stockard each had two of the Mocs' 17 hits.

- Stevie Baird was 3-for-3 with two grand slams as Lee University completed a Gulf South softball series sweep at Christian Brothers with a 12-4 win Saturday. Taylor Moran also homered, driving in three runs, and Courtney Crawford, winning pitcher Leigh Beatenbough and Brooklynn Frazier had two hits each for Lee (32-13, 18-9). Crawford, Zoe Miller and Kayla Louie scored two runs apiece.

- Bryan College got only two hits in the first game but won 2-0 and 3-0 over visiting Hiwassee. Sydney West pitched a four-hitter in winning the duel with Claudia Hutchins. Bryan's Courtney Petty and Madison Owens combined on a five-hitter in the second game, when Kim Borowski and Kayla Hayes each was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Olivia Gore also went 2-for-3.

- Cleveland State went 2-2 against Southwest Tennessee in TCCAA softball Thursday and Friday. The wins for the Lady Cougars (13-26, 6-22) were 8-3 and 7-1 behind pitchers Carly Frost and Kaley Cagle; the losses were 8-7 in nine innings and 3-2. Rachel Pierce had nine hits in the series and Emily Banks added seven, while Macy Bryant and Grayson Brown had six apiece.

- Brenau won 7-0 and 14-0 at Brewton-Parker on Friday and 5-0 and 7-0 Saturday at Middle Georgia State, making the Golden Tigers 43-5, 22-0 in the SSAC. Kelsey Payne from East Hamilton had an RBI and a run scored in each game Friday and had two RBIs in Saturday's second game. Savannah Moore from Soddy-Daisy scored a run in each contest Saturday.

Tennis

- The Sewanee tennis teams both clinched five consecutive years of SAA regular-season championships with 9-0 home wins Friday against Hendrix. The Sewanee women (16-5, 7-0), ranked 16th in NCAA Division III, are 44-0 all-time in SAA play after a 9-0 defeat of Rhodes on Saturday. The No. 18 Sewanee men (18-3, 7-0) beat Rhodes 6-3.

- Covenant College lost 8-1 to Methodist in the USA South women's tennis tournament final Saturday at LaGrange, Ga. Annie DeLuca and Jennie Spielman won 9-8 (7-4) at No. 3 doubles for Covenant (14-8).

Track & Field

- Carson-Newman seniors Tiana Mills from GPS and T.J. Davis from Ooltewah won the long jump championships Friday in the South Atlantic Conference track and field meet at Hickory, N.C., and Mills was second and Davis fourth in the triple jump events Saturday. Davis has won the SAC long jump three times. CNU's Kristofer Potts-Howard from Tullahomas was second in the men's triple and third in the long jump.

- Kelsie Schiavone, Logan Stockton, Miles Martin, Ridge Davis and the women's 4x400 relay team of Schiavone, Haley Lyerly, L'Or Puymartin and Meredith Stuber won events for Sewanee in third-place team finishes Friday at the Sewanee Mountain Laurel track and field meet, and Puymartin set a school record with a second-place 12:01.71 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Reinhardt and Birmingham-Southern were first and second out of eight men's teams, and BSC and Emory were first and second in the men's standings. Schiavone won the 400 with teammate Adriana Hibarra fourth, Stockton won the men's 3000, Martin won the men's 110 hurdles and Davis won men's javelin. The Tigers' Davis Couch was second in the men's 400 hurdles and Jourdan Redden was third in the steeplechase.

Golf

- Covenant freshman Nathan Hawkins shot a season-best 71 Saturday and moved into a tie for 13th at 224 in the USA South men's golf tourney in LaGrange. The Scots finished ninth out of nine teams at 993 but had by far their best day in the event with a 312. Josh Wall closed with a 76. Chattanoogan Wil Manuel tied for 25th with a team-best 229 for eighth-place Maryville (932).

Lacrosse

- The Sewanee women's lacrosse team lost 17-11 to undefeated Rhodes in SAA play Saturday, despite three goals apiece from Catherine Crigler and Kit Sommi and a goal and two assists from Anna Comer. The Tigers are 13-4, 5-2; the Lynx, 16-0, 7-0.
