Sewanee women outlast Rhodes College in double overtime

Sewanee split a pair of high-scoring basketball games in a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader Sunday at Rhodes College in Memphis.

The Sewanee women won 95-91 in double overtime behind 32 points from Bella Taylor, with the Tigers outscoring their hosts 18-14 in the final period to end a game that included eight ties and four lead changes.

Taylor came off the bench but played 44 minutes and had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Sue Kim added 15 points, nine assists and five steals for Sewanee (9-14, 6-7), while Corey Caulder, Hannah McCormack and Savannah Rose each had 12 points, Caulder and McCormack with eight rebounds apeice and Rose with five assists.

Six players scored in double figures for Rhodes (5-19, 4-9), with Allie Young standing out with 17 poinys and 15 rebounds.

In the men's game, Sewanee lost 113-97 despite a pair of 22-point performances from Brody Stone and Jorden Williams, plus 18 points from Clay Born. Stone also had 11 rebounds for the Tigers (13-11, 6-7), who trailed 63-42 at halftime.

Five players scored in double figures for Rhodes (13-10, 10-3), with Ian Harrison leading with 15 points in just 16 minutes on the floor.

- Rebecca Cheeks from Sonoraville High School had 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Erika Woodin from Dade County also scored 15 points, on five 3-pointers, as first-place Reinhardt beat Truett McConnell 81-51 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.

Jada Hubbard from Heritage High added 11 points for Reinhardt (25-3, 17-3).

- Mariah Massengill from Silverdale Baptist Academy had 15 points, nine rebounds, six assists, a steal and a block to help Eastern Kentucky beat visiting Morehead State 65-58 on Saturday night.

The Colonels improved to 9-16, 6-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
