Basketball

- Sequatchie County High School senior Noah Bartley signed last week to continue his basketball career and major in Bible at Bryan College. He led the Indians with 23 points in the District 7-AA tournament final Saturday and is averaging just less than 17 points a game along with "about eight rebounds and maybe two or three steals," Sequatchie coach Jason Smith said. The son of former Lookouts pitcher and area baseball coach and pastor Greg Bartley had 18 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and four blocked shots in one recent game. "Noah is a real hard-working kid with a lot of ability and a lot of determinaton," Smith said. "He's become a dual threat for us. He's a 6-4 wing who handles the ball well and can shoot, but we also post him up. And he gives us very good leadership." Bartley has surpassed 1,200 points in his Indians career, with more than 1,000 the last two seasons. He picked Bryan over Milligan because it's a Christian school close to his family and the church he wants to keep attending, Brainerd Baptist, where his brother is a ministry intern. "I want to be around people with similar beliefs and grow in my walk with God and other people," he said.

- Fifth-ranked Dalton State lost its SSAC home game Saturday to No. 17 William Carey, 78-75, but Carnilious Simmons set a program record with 24 rebounds while scoring 16 points. He set the Roadrunners' single-game scoring record with 37 points earlier this season. Mike Harden added 15 points for Dalton State (21-4, 13-4).

- Reinhardt's Appalachian Athletic Conference-leading Lady Eagles lost 54-51 in overtime at Bluefield on Saturday, but reigning AAC player of the week Rebecca Cheeks from Sonoraville High School had a team-high 15 points plus seven rebounds in the loss.
