With half a season to go, Darius Fugh has the basketball career scoring record for Georgia Northwestern Technical College. The former Pepperell High School standout passed Alex Miller's previously top total with his 20 points in Saturday's 85-67 loss at Florida College, giving Fugh 737 as a Bobcat. He set the single-season record with 532 points as a freshman last year and is averaging 20.5 per game this season for the USCAA Division II team. Florida College is in USCAA Division I. Fugh also had eight rebounds in Saturday's game, while Andrew Johnson and Demonte Parker scored 11 and nine points and Daniel Parrish had six assists for the Bobcats (4-6). The Lady Cats fell to 0-10 with a 94-32 loss to Trinity (Fla.) on Friday and a 63-22 defeat at ninth-ranked Florida College on Saturday. Carrie Benedict scored 13 points for GNTC on Friday, when Bunny McCoy had 15 rebounds with eight points, Sprite Dyer grabbed 10 rebounds and Katy Phillips added five assists. Phillips led the team Saturday with nine points and three steals, and Taylor Hines had eight rebounds.

- Sewanee split a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader Sunday at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, with Jorden Williams scoring a career-high 35 points as the men won 84-70. Williams shot 13-for-19, including 7-for-12 from 3-point range, while playing all but one minute for the Tigers (9-4, 2-1), who got 13 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals from Brody Stone and 10 points from Clay Born. They held a 38-31 halftime lead against Oglethorpe (4-10, 1-2). In the women's 74-69 loss, four players scored in double figures for the Tigers (4-9, 1-2): Corey Caulder (18 points), Bella Taylor (14), Savannah Rose (14) and Sue Kim (10). Taylor's five assists and five steals, Rose's five rebounds and Caulder's two blocks led Sewanee, which trailed Oglethorpe (9-5, 3-0) 19-13 after the first quarter and 35-24 at halftime but was tied at 50 entering the final period.

- On Saturday, former GPS and Hamilton Heights basketball player Akia Harris became the second freshman and fifth Tennessee Tech women's player to register a triple-double as she helped her team improve to 5-12 and 2-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 72-54 victory against Murray State (10-6, 2-1) in Cookeville. Cecilia Ramsey was the program's other freshman with a triple-double, nearly 30 years ago. "Harris has a chance to be really special," coach Kim Rosamond said in a story on ttusports.com. "It goes back to her work ethic and her character. She is going to be in the gym day after day and is one of the most coachable kids I've ever been around. Anything we have ever asked her to do she has been willing to do for the team. You look at her line tonight: 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists in 38 minutes of play, you really couldn't feel like you could take her off the floor at any point in the game. Akia has got a chance to do some really great things here. She has really earned the confidence and trust of her teammates because of the way she carries herself not only on, but also off the court."

WRESTLING

- Georgia High School Association area duals tournaments delayed by inclement weather over the weekend must be completed by Tuesday, according to a GHSA mandate sent to wrestling coaches, and with several mountain-area schools in northwest Georgia closed today, the majority of the tournaments involving local teams are set for Tuesday. The Area 6-AAAAAA tournament, which includes Dalton, is at Sprayberry in Marietta on Tuesday, the same day of competition for 6-AAAA at Heritage, 6-AAA at Calhoun and 6-A at Trion. As of Sunday evening, the 7-AA tournament at Chattooga was still set for today. State duals in Macon are scheduled to start Thursday for classes AAAA to AAAAAAA, with the remaining classes starting Friday. The GHSA said in its statement it will not waive the five-match rule for teams at area duals, meaning if a tournament requires a "true second-place match," a team that had already wrestled five duals during the day would not be allowed to compete. In that case the higher-seeded team would be declared the second-place finisher. Each of the GHSA tournaments will take its top two teams to Macon.
