UTC football adds receivers coach

Ryan Aplin will be added to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football coaching staff, sources have told the Times Free Press.

Aplin will most likely serve as the wide receivers coach, the sources said.

He was most recently the receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at North Alabama, which lost the NCAA Division II national championship game this past season. Before that he was a graduate assistant for the offensive staff of Auburn coach Gus Malzahn for two seasons and an administrative intern for Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze.

Aplin was a two-time Sun Belt Conference player of the year as a quarterback at Arkansas State, where he played one season for Malzahn and one for Freeze. Under Freeze in 2011, he passed for 3,588 yards and 19 touchdowns with 10 rushing scores. He passed for 3,323 yards and 24 touchdowns the next season under Malzahn.

His addition would complete new UTC coach Tom Arth's staff, which hasn't been fully announced. Demarcus Covington has been added to the staff, as has Scott Aligo, though neither addition has been announced by the Mocs.

Arth has announced the hirings of offensive coordinator Justin Rascati, defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, offensive line coach Nick Hennessey, tight end/special teams coach Chris Hurd, defensive line coach Brian Cochran and linebackers coach Matthew Feeney, along with the retainment of running backs coach Shawn Bryson and director of football operations Kadeem Wise.
