Carson-Newman's Tiana Mills from Chattanooga and Girls Preparatory School provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II indoor track and field national meet with her 11.58-meter triple jump Friday at the East Tennessee State University Invitational in Johnson City. It was the second best indoor triple jump of her college career, following an 11.86 in the same building last year. ETSU freshman Kiana Davis from Ooltewah won her heat and was second overall in the 200-meter preliminaries in 25.41 seconds. Tennessee Wesleyan was well-represented by Chattanooga-area men in speed-event prelims, including Avery Hubbard (racing unattached) from Red Bank second in 6.75 and Josh Parsons from Rhea County fourth in 6.80 in the 60 and Hubbard third and Parsons seventh in the 200. Chaz Hawkins from TWU and Signal Mountain was eighth and a finals qualifier in the 60 hurdles, and Cadarius Harris from Tyner won his 60 dash heat and just missed qualifying for the finals.

Softball

- Northwest Whitfield High School's Holyn Holsomback is the latest player from the ProStar Fastpitch organization to commit to continue her softball career at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Ga. She follows Morgan Parris, who signed with Brewton-Parker and former Tennessee Temple coaches Randy Crawford and Nate Tompkins in December, and previously committed Lindsey Adams and Destiny Parker. "Holyn is a strong-armed catcher/outfielder with tremendous raw power," ProStar CEO Steve Chattin said. "She is blessed with tremendous God-given size and athletic ability. I am convinced that as talented as Holyn is, she has not reached her potential yet. She is capable of being a 15-20-a-year home-run threat in college." Chattin said the Brewton-Parker coaches "were sold not only on her current ability but the high ceiling they believe she possesses" both as a catcher and in the outfield.
