The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team opened the 2017 part of its schedule with a 6-1 victory over Austin Peay at McCallie School. The Mocs swept the doubles for a 1-0 lead and got singles wins from Samantha Caswell, Caroline Hall, Sydney Patton, sole senior Rachele Gazzola and Mckenzie Barco. Caswell and Hall went three sets for theirs. "It was a great win and I knew it was going to be a battle," first-year coach Chad Camper said in a UTC release. The UTC men lost 7-0 at Middle Tennessee State.

Basketball

* The Dalton State men's basketball team won 89-65 Monday night at Blue Mountain for its 10th victory in a row. Isaiah Box scored 22 points and Reed Dungan and Mike Harden had 16 apiece for the ninth-ranked Roadrunners (15-1), who rose to 7-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. Carnilious Simmons added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Box and Dungan each was 4-for-6 on 3-point shots.

* Eastern Kentucky senior guard Mariah Massengill from Silverdale Baptist Academy scored a career-high 16 points in a 66-62 win over visiting Tennessee State on Saturday. That lifted EKU to 4-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, 7-11 overall.
