The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team won the doubles point but lost 4-3 to Austin Peay in Saturday night's match at the Voges-Strang center at McCallie School. Simon Bustamante won in both singles and doubles for UTC (0-3), but only Michael Birnbaum at No. 6 joined him with a victory win for the Mocs. Pablo Llebeili lost in three sets to Austin Peay's Aaron Jumonville at No. 3, and Max Grobbelaar lost 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 to the Govenors' Alex Kartsonis at No. 5 in the last match completed. The UTC women (3-1) won 6-1 on Friday night against Kennesaw State, with singles wins by Samantha Caswell, Delaney Edwards, Caroline Hall, Sydney Patton and Mckenzie Barco.

Basketball

- The Lee University women's basketball team bounced back from its loss Thursday to Union University to win a Gulf South Conference home game Saturday against Christian Brothers, 86-68, but the Lee men fell 60-54. For the Lady Flames (13-6, 8-5), who jumped to a 13-3 lead and maintained control the rest of the way, Abby Bertram had 24 points and nine assists and Carrie Cheeks and Haley Cornellison scored 17 and 16 points. Rachel Lee had 26 for CBU (11-7, 8-6). Adam Dieball had 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the winning CBU guys (12-8, 9-5); Keevin Tyus scored 14 points and Cody Farley had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Flames (9-10, 5-8).

- Two Caleb Haynes free throws capped Covenant College's late rally from a nine-deficit to send Saturday's game on Lookout Mountain to overtime, and the Scots went on to a 84-82 USA South victory over William Peace. Patjo Twagirayezu scored 26 points for Covenant, which got 14 points and 13 rebounds from Haynes and 12 points and five assists from Berto Dryden. The Lady Scots fell 74-50 to LaGrange despite 18 points and seven rebounds from Joanna Smith.

- Dalton State won a key Southern States Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday at Faulkner, 83-67, as Carnilious Simmons scored 16 points, Reed Dungan added 15, Sayvon Wilson had 14 and Isaiah Box tallied 12. The Roadrunners are 18-1, 10-1 in the SSAC.

- Tennessee Wesleyan defeated visiting Bryan 80-70 in the women's game and 74-63 in the men's in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader. Gina Dick had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Hunter Simpson had 17 points with seven rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, who overcame 19 points by Maebry McNeese and 11 by Amber Levi for Bryan. Tonesha Allison, Erisha Talley and Levi had nine, eight and seven rebounds in defeat. The Bulldogs won with balance, as Jordan Hall had 13 points and five assists, Tre Tiller 11 points and eight rebounds and Kenny Dean 10 points and all 11 players scoring at least three. Oteriah Lee and Brice Cusick scored 16 each for the Lions, and Riley Dempsey had 15 with Tyler Yoder adding 10.

- Tevin Olison scored 28 points with four 3-point baskets and eight rebounds and Cam Copeland had 17 points as Cleveland State defeated visiting Jackson State 78-59 in TCCAA men's basketball Saturday, but Jackson won the women's game 67-59. Victor Curry had 13 rebounds with 11 points for the winning Cougars (11-5, 6-5). Catherine Davis, Abby Hubert and Keya Jenkins scored 14, 13 and 12 for the Lady Cougars (11-8, 5-6), Jenkins with 10 rebounds. The Lady Generals are 12-4, 6-4.

- Visiting Oxford-Emory beat Georgia Northwestern 77-61 in men's basketball Saturday at the Rossville Athletic Center, but Darrius Fugh had 21 points and 14 rebounds in defeat and Daniel Parrish scored 18 points with 5-of-9 3-point shooting. GNTC is 8-8.

Swimming

- Samantha and Jess Vargo from Signal Mountain and the Baylor Swim Club were on King University's winning women's 200-meter freestyle relay Friday night in Emory, Va., where King beat Milligan but lost to host Emory & Henry. Jess finished second in the 800 free, and Samantha was third in the 100 butterfly.

Baseball

- Local resident and 11th-year Los Angeles Dodgers pitching coach Rick Honeycutt will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. After starring as both a pitcher and a first baseman at Tennessee, Honeycutt had a 21-year major league pitching career and was the American League ERA champion in 1983 with a 2.42 in 25 starts. Since he took over the Dodgers' pitchers in 2006, that staff has been No. 1 in the big leagues in earned run average, WHIP, strikeouts, strikeout/walk ratio and opponents' batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
