Local nonagenarians Warren Barger and Charlie Baker were among the inaugural inductees into the Tennessee Senior Olympics Hall of Fame at a ceremony this past week in Franklin. Both Barger, 96, and Baker, 90, have piled up medals and ribbons in decades of participation in Senior Olympics. Baker - a lifelong runner, according to a BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee release - got involved after retiring from DuPont in 1993. He has competed in track and field, racquetball, pickleball and volleyball and has been a board member for Senior Olympics. "A lot of times, when you retire you lose the routine. The Senior Olympics gave me a way to be active and stay involved," Baker said in the release. Barger, who has lived in Red Bank since 1958, was involved in senior activities even before the Senior Olympics began. Starting with volleyball, he proved successful at bringing in and teaching others, and he continues to play badminton at least twice a week and golf and pickleball weekly. Like Baker, he won many of his medals in track and field. "I enjoy being able to compete and see the friends I've made over the years," Barger said.
