Former Georgia state champion Jon Lancaster from Heritage High School and the Baylor Swim Club was one of four Carson-Newman men recognized as 2017 Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America. The designation requires a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and participation in an NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA national meet. Softball

- Silverdale Baptist Academy rising junior Maddie Tankersley committed Friday to play college softball at Alabama-Huntsville. Tankersley, who has been tutored in pitching for years by Beth Keylon Rawlston and is in her second year in the ProStar Fastpitch program headed by Steve Chattin, said she has attended camps at or otherwise visited "probably 12-15 different schools over the last two years, and the opportunity at UAH is the perfect fit for my academic and athletic goals. The school is very strong in math and science, which fits my major. I have been impressed with the athletic facilities, and I immediately fell in love with Coach (Les) Stuedeman and the staff." Tankersley has a 3.9 grade point average and is in the student council and student ambassadors program at SBA, and she wants to major in biology on the way to becoming an orthodontist. "Maddie throws in the low 60s with two college-level pitches in her changeup and curve," Chattin said. "She is working to have her riseball at the collegiate level, and she has two more years of travel ball before she goes to college."
