Georgia receiver Riley Ridley was arrested Saturday night in Athens for misdemeanor marijuana possession and could miss the Bulldogs' Sept. 2 opener against Appalachian State.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Jail's booking report, the 6-foot-2, 197-pounder from Coconut Creek, Fla., was arrested at 10:05 and charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. He was released early Sunday morning after posting a bond of $1,000.

University policy calls for student-athletes cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession for a first time to serve a suspension of 10 percent of an upcoming season.

Ridley, the younger brother of Alabama receiver Calvin Ridley, had 12 receptions for 238 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman last year. His 19.8 yards per catch led the Bulldogs, who capped an 8-5 season with a 31-23 win over TCU in the Liberty Bowl.

Ridley's most memorable catch was a 47-yarder from Jacob Eason with 10 seconds remaining against Tennessee inside Sanford Stadium, which gave the Bulldogs a 31-28 lead. What could have been one of the most dramatic home victories in Georgia history was dashed when Volunteers quarterback Josh Dobbs connected with Jauan Jennings from 43 yards out on the game's final play, putting Tennessee on top 34-31.
