Georgia receiver Shakenneth Williams may be giving up football due to injuries.

The 6-foot-1, 208-pound senior from Macon has yet to participate this spring. The Bulldogs held their fourth of 15 practices Tuesday, working out for more than two hours in 80-degree temperatures.

"He may or may not come back," Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said Tuesday night in a news conference. "We're not sure yet. Right now, he's helping us as a student coach."

Williams signed in 2014 as a four-star prospect and played as a true freshman, appearing in five games and catching three passes for 61 yards. He played in eight games as a sophomore, making one catch for 10 yards, and didn't have a reception last year in two games.

The Bulldogs also are practicing without Riley Ridley, while Javon Wims wore a noncontact jersey Tuesday. Ridley had 12 catches for 238 yards last season, with his 19.8 yards per reception leading the team.

"We hope to get Riley Ridley back by the end of spring," Smart said. "We feel like he'll be back from the surgical repairment he had on his ankle in the bowl practices, but he's not completely back from that yet."

Wims had 17 catches for 190 yards last season.

"That's a position obviously that we're getting depleted at pretty rapidly," Smart said.

Odds and ends

Smart said Tuesday that senior left tackle Isaiah Wynn has been the only "rock solid" member of the offensive line to this point. ... Sophomore Tyrique McGhee would be the starter at the "star" position if the season started today, according to Smart, but he is also a candidate for some time at cornerback. ... When asked if this year's defense could be reminiscent of some of the ones he had at Alabama, Smart said he has detected some complacency on that side of the ball and the unit has "yet to dominate" through four practices. ... The Bulldogs will practice again Thursday, when the three-day annual coaching clinic takes place.
