Georgia sophomore tailback Elijah Holyfield was arrested early Monday morning on a pair of misdemeanor drug charges following a search of his campus dorm room.

The 5-foot-11, 215-pound son of former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield was arrested by university police and charged with possession and use of drug-related objects and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. According to the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's online jail booking report, Holyfield was booked at 3:19 and released at 4:08 after posting bond of $4,050.

Holyfield appeared in five games last season as a freshman, rushing six times for 29 yards (4.8 per carry). He had four carries for 27 yards during the second half of Georgia's 45-14 loss at Ole Miss in late September.

A consensus four-star prospect in the 2016 signing class, Holyfield rushed 151 times for 1,069 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2015 as a senior at Woodward Academy in the Atlanta suburb of College Park.

Per Georgia's drug and alcohol policy, Holyfield likely will be suspended for Georgia's Sept. 2 opener against Appalachian State in Sanford Stadium. Sophomore receiver Riley Ridley was arrested March 11 for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Holyfield is the second Georgia player to earn unwanted attention since the G-Day spring game on April 22. Several hours after the G-Day game, Bulldogs offensive tackle signee D'Antne Demery was arrested after hitting and shoving the mother of his one-month-old child in Athens.

Demery, also a four-star prospect, was dismissed by coach Kirby Smart the following day.

CB Smith commits

Georgia picked up the third commitment for its 2018 signing class Monday from cornerback Christopher Smith II from Hapeville Charter in Atlanta. The 5-11, 169-pounder is rated by 247Sports.com as a three-star recruit and as the nation's No. 41 cornerback prospect.

Smith picked the Bulldogs over scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Southern California and Tennessee.
