Myrtle Beach's Duane Moss commits to basketball Mocs

Lamont Paris got his first Southern Conference win over the weekend.

Obviously not on the court, but off it.

Versatile forward Duane Moss from Myrtle Beach, S.C., committed to Paris and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball program Sunday evening, choosing the Mocs over league rival UNC Greensboro.

He becomes the sixth member of the Mocs' signing class, joining guard Jonathan Bryant and forwards Justin Brown, Joan Duran and James Lewis plus guard Jerry Johnson, who must sit out the 2017-18 season after transferring from Fairfield.

The 6-foot-7 Moss originally committed to Youngstown State, but he asked for and was granted a release from his letter of intent after longtime coach Jerry Slocum retired. He averaged 13.8 points and 6.4 rebounds a game as a junior at Carolina Forest High School, but nagging injuries kept him off the court for most of his senior season.

In 10 games as a senior, according to MaxPreps, he averaged 15.2 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.8 blocks while making 40 percent of his 52 3-point attempts.

"(The Mocs) are going to play a Wisconsin style, which involves movement and putting the ball in the basket," Moss said Sunday evening, referencing the school where Paris was associate head coach. "I got into that perfectly; it's how I've played my whole life."
