Tennis

* The Chattanooga USTA Adult League 4.0 55-over men's tennis team with David Snyder as captain pulled off a rare state-title three-peat last weekend in Knoxville and advances to the sectionals in Asheville, N.C., in September. Playing teams from Knoxville, Nashville and Memphis twice each, Chattanooga went into its last match Sunday evening against Knoxville with matching 4-1 records and won with doubles victories from Raymond Rich/Glen Wagner and Tom Cloud/Bob Taylor. Besides those four and Snyder, the title team included Tony Bartley, Terry Bartley, Dan Barry, Pat Farnsley, Turney Thompson, Glenn Wear and Ken Ellinger. They lost Saturday morning against Knoxville, which lost one of its matches against Memphis. "The teams were all tough, and we had close matches throughout," Snyder said. "It takes a lot of different things going your way to get three in a row, and it's always come down to the last match of the weekend deciding the champs."
