KNOXVILLE - Tennessee football coach Butch Jones said Monday that starting defensive end Darrell Taylor is suspended indefinitely.

The Volunteers (3-2, 0-2 SEC) host South Carolina (4-2, 2-2) on Saturday at noon. Tennessee is coming off a bye week. South Carolina defeated Arkansas 48-22 on Saturday.

Taylor, redshirt sophomore, has 20 tackles and a sack this season.

Jones said there were "multiple factors" involved in Taylor's suspension.

Tennessee already expected to be without Taylor for the first half against South Carolina after he was ejected in the second half of the Georgia game for attempting to punch a Georgia player.

Junior defensive end Kyle Phillips is likely to start in Taylor's absence. Phillips has been a consistent part of the playing rotation this year, splitting time with Taylor and Jonathan Kongbo.

This is a developing story.
