Sewanee freshman safety William Phillips from Nashville was the Southern Athletic Association football defensive player of the week for his first collegiate game, a 45-20 win over Kenyon, and that performance also landed him on the D3Football.com national team of the week. Phillips scored on a school-record 98-yard fumble return that turned an imminent 14-0 deficit into a sudden 7-7 tie, and he also contributed two of the Tigers' five interceptions and displayed some speed and nifty moves on kickoff and punt returns. He totaled 46 yards on his interception returns, one of which set up a touchdown drive, and was credited with two solo tackles. The only other SAA player who made the D3Football.com team was Rhodes linebacker Trent Holt.

Bailey Sipos netted a 19-yard shot in the 20th minute from a Shannon Reagan assist.
